Ok, Im having a poker party at my house ok. there was 21 people and the buy in was $25. We had 2 tables and when someone got knocked out, the people who wernt playing goes in. So i do good and get to the final 2. I'm way ahead in the chips. The other guy gets a few pots and were about even. Blinds are decent size, i say decent cause blinds dont matter to much here, I get pocket queens. great hand heads up. im on the botton so i raise 1/10 of my stack. He reraised me about 1/2 of my stack. so i just call. flop comes K Q 3, it was a rainbow flop. i got the set. so I check it to suck more chips from the other person. He bets 1/2 of my stack. So I reraise and go all in. He calls. He had pocket Kings. I did make a comeback though from nearly no chips at all to win. there was about a $150 difference for first and second place. Did I play the hand bad, or did i just get unlucky. Any suggestions on what i could have done differently?

Well, I think his large raise pre-flop should have been an indication that he had a strong hand. Whether or not he had AA or KK at that point is not known. Once the flop comes I think it's still a bit difficult to know for sure. Anyone with AA is going to bet in that situation, so for you to lay down trips is a bit hard even with the K there. As I said, anyone with AA would bet here so it's a toss up as to what this person has.I have to admit that I would've done the same thing you did, it's just such a hard play to detect. However, I would've been weary. If I had any inclination, which you didn't seem to mention in your post, that he had KK, I would've been outta there for sure and let him have the pot.

he gave off no information at all. i had no idea that hed have pocket kings because hes suck an aggressive player. i thot he probably had a pair of kings but no way i thot hed have the set.

Knowing that then you have to ask yourself is risking the going all-in worth the potential risk that he has you beaten with a set of kings?As unlikely is it is that he does, it's hard not to move all-in here. But I think his bet sizes indicate strength, particularly after the board was show he wouldn't have bet without at least two pair because that is a scary flop.It's hard to say thought as I mentioned before.... tough to lay down.

wow, i really dont know what you couldve done there. this may be a go broke situation. i can see folding before the flop,but it would really depend on how this guy was playing and what sort of hands he tends to reraise with. tough to put a guy on aces or kings when u are heads up holding queens though. if it were me, i may have moved in before the flop....oops.and no, there is no way in history anyone would ever lay down a set of queens after that flop.
