his play makes no sense. I doubt he has AQ or something and was looking for a free card. Same goes for JJ/TT.
I would check. I don't think you're winning here, but I'd still call a bet because his play is so bizarre.

Right on. Frequently when I see something like this villain is trying to induce a bet on the river so he can raise. Check/call for info.

I do this sometimes shorthanded. Many people can check/fold, but few can bet/fold, it seems.
