Did I Play This Right And How To Improve

Okay so I played in a home tourney and this hand has been irking me. We are 10 handed just started each player has 2500 in chipd to start. the blinds are at 25/50. it is about the tenth hand of the game I am on the button with KJ unsuited. Here is how it plays out: Everyone folds to me so I limp in, the SB calls and the BB checks. Flop comes J82 all diamonds (i don't have a diamond) checks to me so I bet 200 to see where I'm at. SB folds and BB calls. Turn brings a 5 BB checks I bet another 200. the river brings a 7 at this point the BB goes all in so I fold.Is this the right move and how could i have played it better?Thanks in advance for responses

Without reads it's hard to say.I can say for certain, though, that open-limping KJo on the Button is usually a very bad play. Betting to "see where you are at" is also usually a bad idea.

I agree with the first statement. If you are going to play the hand raise from the button. Not only do you have decent values for a hand vs blinds only, but it will give you information about how these players defend their blinds for the later rounds when they become more important.I disagree with the second statement. On the flop betting for information is usually the most important purpose.

raise preflop. i like the flop bet, b/c if he's trying to draw with one big diamond in his hand you're making him pay too much. bet more on the turn when checked to, and if he check-raises it likely means flush, so fold. if he just calls the turn bet then he's either on a draw with one diamond or he has a small flush. either way, i'm hoping for a free showdown and not planning on putting more money in if he gets aggressive on the river.

I agree with the first statement as well...raise. I dont understadn the logic of it is folded to me on the button with KJ, so I limp???I like betting the flop as well. He could be putting you on a big diamond draw, and have a weak J or even second pair, if not a draw himself.Bet the pot on the turn and see what he does. I think a pot sized bet declairs at least that you are not on a draw and should get him to fold without a flush or a hand like two pair maybeIf he raises then he probably has a small flush and is trying to get you off your bigger draw, so I would dump it. If he just calls again I bet 1/2 to 2/3 the pot on the river if the diamond never comes

Thanks for all the responses that was what I was thinking of throughout the day." I should've bet more on the turn."Also good call on the raise preflop. Next time I will remmeber that. It's just KJo to me is such a marginal hand i would rather get in without any money and hope for a big flop, but the raise on the Button makes sense.Thanks again everyone who responded
