playing .5/1 HU on FCP
my opponnent didn't seem that good, although i think i adjusted to his playing style very poorly
he seemed to call down any bare A, K, Q and sometimes J
and he would always value raise the river if he made a strong top pair or better
he would also give a lot of free cards when he didn't have a hand
i'm sure part of the loss is due to running bad, but a lot is due to playing bad
what are some adjustments you would make given how i've described villain's playing style?
here are some ideas:
value bet good no pair hands like AK UI on the river
check/call or bet/fold rivers when dangerous cards come that you know the villain will raise when his hand is better than yours
only bet when you have an equity edge because fold equity is very low (i still think it is important to continuation bet in position because villain folded a lot if the flop came high, high, low)
maybe just complete with marginal hands from the button
relentlessly value bet any made hand
dropped 100bb last night

Basically, just stop betting your no pair hands unless they're AK 0r maybe a strong draw. It's hard to adjust your style sometimes, but if you're playing a loose-passive opponent HU, you definitely have to change it up.

God this seems like a remake of what happened to me 1 month ago.
Same site. Basically same opponent. The stakes were at 2/4 though.
I also felt I adjusted very poorly. I started out the first 10 minutes raising almost every button and being aggressive but it was completely neutralized with how much he liked to call down.
To change it up, I rarely raised OOP, and when I bet the turn, it was purely for value with no consideration to fold equity.
I also started relentlessly value betting, but I also ran kinda bad. It was one of the most frustrating sessions I have ever had because he played so many hands with a set line, and everytime I knew what he had I would be forced to pay off when an ace hit the river or I would be unable to get him to fold jack high on a four flush board, that kinda thing.
In theory, I thought that bloating the pot pre-flop would just cushion his mistakes of peeling and peeling with anything concievable, so I tried to just limp in and play smaller pots with most of my holdings, of course raising any normal hands I would raise in a 6-max game though. I still ran bad though.
I like all your ideas, but I really like these:
As an aside, I actually came out down relatively small after the whole session was over, but after looking over the session with pokertracker I saw that I contributed over $100 in rake.
As fun as it to make money off of horrible players in a HU game, I don't think it can be as profitable as six-max or full ring in how you are giving away such a big portion of your profits to the rake.

I've only recently started playing HU LH @ .25/.50.
Many opponents at this level fall under loose passive. I've found, again in my limited experience, that you can't overpower them. Obviously, fire away when you feel you have an advantage, but don't be afraid to continually check down with nothing.
As you know, card rushes are huge in this game. It is just as important not to throw away bets when it seems like your opponent is hitting everything. If he doesn't force you to bet when he has middle or top pair (yes i'v seen this a lot), don't feel obligated to bet.
Just play basic boring poker.
BTW, could you point me in the direction of any good HU strategy links. Search was not my friend in the last forum, and I'm stiil confused in this new set up.

See, that's what I like about poker. Even the mildly retarded can play.
