bought into a 3,6 game last night for $100 dollars to play for a few hours. I basically blinded the whole stack away. The odd time I caught cards adding up to 20 I was UTG or facing 3 raises to me in LP.The entire game I caught virtually no cards. I was Dealt AK one time (board came low, someone made a straight) and other than that the only hand I caught worth playing was AJ in the big blind and it was declared a misdeal. If I caught a hand that was somewhat co-ordinated in late position, I'd try and limp. It would usually get raised and what I'd hoped would cost me 3 dollars would cost me 6 or i'd fold to a 9 dollar bet.The guy to my left bridged every time I was in the BB, so no free flops for me, and I never caught any cards worth fighting for in this position (i'd Call the $6 with 5 or 6 people in, and have to fold). When I did call, I would usually get re-raised and have to call 3 more so my questions....What are typical starting hand requirements for you all in these games? Do you just grind and wait for hands? Do you call the big blind and play after the flop? In a typical game, how do you approach it (particularily if you arent catching cards? In online poker, It's fairly easy to play tight wait for premium hands because you see so many hands per hour, and combined with multi-tabling it seems like you have a playable hand at least once every few minutes. I do alright on UB (up about 300 dollars this year playing micro NL and $5 and $10 sng's)....I know im not a great player, I thought I was decent, but not great. Then last night, I just got run over... never stood a chance. ideas?

you needed to buy-in for about $200-$250 to play it right. You short stacked yourself right off the bat so it affected your game. Try buying in for more so that you have something to play with when you catch a hand

What are typical starting hand requirements for you all in these games? AA, KK, QQ, big suited connectors and a good book or an Ipod.Ask for a seat change if the straddler on your blind bothers you. You're better off with him on your right anyway if you can manage it.

thanks :)the straddling didnt really bother me I suppose. At one point he was on my right, and straddled every time the blinds were to his right so I know he wasnt just trying to bully ME. It just kept me from being tempted to play hands like q,10 in early position.I don't have a lot of casino experience (4 times, and I previously have finished about even or down 3 or 4 big blinds every time). It's just tough playing tight for so long and not catching any cards. It's so tempting to start playing recklessly because everyone else at the table seemed to be... I also remember DN mentioning asking a player if he was an online player in his blog somewhere... it makes me wonder if I'm missing something... or havent learned some secret of the game. Or maybe I just had a dry run of cards.who knows... my confidence is shaken though....

it's better than the alternative of getting great cards, raising pre-flop, getting called by crap and losing the hand!last time i had (in about 2 hours), AJ, KQ, AQ(x2), AK(x4), TT, JJ, QQ, KK, AA(x2) - raised with every hand pre-flopi won one of these hands and chopped another.
