how do you figure out your odds on hitting certain hands on the flop..ie. I have an 8c Ac and I want to know what the odds of hitting a flush draw are, or I want to know the odds hitting trips w/ my pkt pr. any mathematical equations or something? Thanks

To hit trips you need to catch 2 cards out of the 50 (you don't take into account what the other players cards are because you don't know). So you take 2/50 (card 1)+ 2/49 (card 2) +2/48 (card 3). About twelve percent.

You don't hit trips w/ a pocket pair. You hit a set. Trips denotes having 1 of the card in your hand and 2 on the board, while a set is the reverse. Thus the equation in the post above doesn't answer for a pocket pair.

:D 8.2 to 1 against flopping a 4flush draw if you're holecards are double-suited. :) It's 7.7 to 1 against flopping a Set with your wired holecards.

Why would you bother with odds preflop? What matters is if you know how to make odds relavent after you have seen the flop, and want to know if you should continue or wait for a more favorable opportunity.
