Just throwing this hand out there. Not sure if I like the way I played it. I didn't think the villian had trip 3's, but..I don't know. Discuss.

7 Card Stud High ($0.50/$1.00), Ante $0.05, Bring-In $0.25 (hand converter (use internet explorer))

3rd Street - (0.80 SB)

Seat 1: xx xx 8:spade: ___folds
Seat 2: xx xx 9:diamond: ___calls
Seat 3: xx xx 3:club: ___brings-in
Hero: 8:club: 4:diamond: 4:club: ___calls
Seat 5: xx xx 8:heart: ___folds
Seat 6: xx xx T:club: ___folds
Seat 7: xx xx Q:spade: ___calls
Seat 8: xx xx A:heart: ___calls

(Note: This was an EXTREMELY loose/passive table..which is why I limped with my split fours. Also, I fold this if I don't have a suited card.)
4th Street - (3.30 SB)

Seat 2: xx xx 9:diamond: 6:heart: ___folds
Seat 3: xx xx 3:club: 3:spade: ___bets
Hero: 8:club: 4:diamond: 4:club: A:club: ___calls
Seat 7: xx xx Q:spade: 7:spade: ___calls
Seat 8: xx xx A:heart: K:heart: ___calls

(was only continuing on 4th street if I caught a 4 or a club)

5th Street - (3.65 BB)

Seat 3: xx xx 3:club: 3:spade: 9:heart: ___bets
Hero: 8:club: 4:diamond: 4:club: A:club: K:club: ___calls
Seat 7: xx xx Q:spade: 7:spade: J:heart: ___folds
Seat 8: xx xx A:heart: K:heart: 4:spade: ___folds

(Same thing here. Need a 4, an Ace or a club to contiune..and I caught the club)

6th Street - (5.65 BB)

Seat 3: xx xx 3:club: 3:spade: 9:heart: 6:diamond: ___bets
Hero: 8:club: 4:diamond: 4:club: A:club: K:club: 5:spade: ___calls

(Blank on 6th street...but I am pretty sure my draw is good..pretty sure a 4 is good..and an Ace or King MAY be good. This whole time I put villian on 77 under or something similar..maybe even 22.)

River - (7.65 BB)

Seat 3: xx xx 3:club: 3:spade: 9:heart: 6:diamond: xx ___bets
Hero: 8:club: 4:diamond: 4:club: A:club: K:club: 5:spade: K:spade: ___calls

(anyone raise here???)

Total pot: (9.65 BB)

What do you think.....any thoughts whatsoever welcome. Let's talk about stud. I think I maybe should have been more aggressive from 5th street forward..I was pretty sure villian didn't have 3 3's, and I had a couple overcards to make two pair and a good flush draw...

i'm probalby not an expert, but i'll give it a shot.

working backwards, i'd go for a raise on 6th. if he doesn't have 3 of a kind, he'd have to be worried about your big cards or that you slowplayed your flush on 5th. i would expect him to check the river after that. if you dont improve, you can see his hand for free. if you make your flush or even 3 of a kind, you get an extra bet in, or more if he overvalues his hand and pushes back. if you make 2 big pair there's a good chance you're ahead and can bet for value if you feel thats a good play. if you dont improve, you can see his hand for the price of 2 bets instead of 3.

i might go as far as to raise on 5th, where you catch a big card that could scare him, plus you have a flush board so far. i would do this if you put the other players on a bigger pair or a big draw and want to make them pay or push them out. if he backs off, you have the option on 6th to push him again or take a free card. this gives you a better idea what you want to do on the river based on his actions.

I don't care how weak the table is; with two 8's dead, I'm folding 3rd without a second thought.

I'm also folding 4th. Even if villain is betting with air, you have the field to get through, and you have nothing but a semi-dead 3-flush and dead overcards to go with your pair. I don't know why you think villain is more likely to have a pocket pair than a 3, especially when no 3's come out during the hand. By 6th street, you've seen 21 cards. That leaves 61 ways villain could have a buried 3, and I count only 25 ways he could have started with a buried pair.

I'm just calling 5th, 6th, and 7th, as I'm figuring I probably need a flush to win, which might not even be enough.

A. I count only two clubs out except for mine throughout the entire hand. That doesn't seem like too dead of a flush draw to me.

B. Again, there was NEVER more than one raise on 3rd st, so I was certain I could get in and try to catch a four for just one bet in a pot with likely 5-6 callers. Also..if I had hit the four, they probably would have called and I would have gotten paid off. I wouldn't normally do that, especially in early position, but pretty much every single player was a compelte calling station.

C. I didn't think he had three three's because he was the bringin, for one, and he bet the minimum on 4th street, and these were the type of players who would bet the full amount if they hit trips..they were very straightforward in their betting patterns at this level....so when he bet the minimum and I remembered that he was the bringin, I just figured it wasn't that likely that he had a 3.
