as promised. The first two tracks are the beginnings of my long-abandoned idea: a mix CD consisting of untagged instrumental tracks. One of them is probably still shazam-proof, so don't bother wasting your time. It plays nicely in ipods if you sort by album.LG is not allowed to participate because she may have already heard them. JLL helpfully pointed out that I left the id3v1 tags in one of the songs. I suppose if you want to play along, you can just use iTunes. or cheat, like he did.

We are all so complicated, and then we die. We are a subject one day, with our vanities, our loves, our worries, and then one day, abruptly, we become nothing but an object, an absolutely disgusting pile of shit. We pass very quickly from one stage to the next. It's very bizarre. It will happen to all of us, and fairly soon too. We become an object you can handle like a stone, but a stone that was someone.

I guess my confusion was due to the fact that iTunes is horrible, so the most obvious meaning of the phrase seemed unlikely, hence I began searching for alternate, more accurate meanings.

Nothing from the Rolling Stone's new Best of the Decade list.

Yeah, for sure. I'm just being a facetious little jackass. Plus I hate Rolling Stone. We "try" and play Wolf Like Me and The Rat in my dad band...sometimes it works out well. One song I really miss from this list is Mistaken For Strangers by The National. I thought it was one of the best songs of, what, 2007?

oh, so the track that wasn't tagged... it was an elliott smith song called "See You In Heaven." It didn't make his first posthumous release for one reason or another. I don't know if it was supposed to have lyrics, but it stands pretty well on its own regardless. I get kind of bummed just listening to the track, thinking about what could've been.if anyone wants to hear the rest of what he was working on for the two CD From a Basement on a Hill, look for "Basement Demos" on any of the torrent websites. it also has a bunch of earlier stuff that wasn't released until 2007 as New Moon. "Stickman" and "Abused" are both quite good and among the last of his later material that hasn't been released. I think Stickman in particular has some lyrics his family doesn't like... weird to consider: the lyrics to "true love" were the last he ever recorded, ending with "take me home, my lord / take me home today / take me out of this place / take me up with you today." of course, a lot of his stuff was equally as morbid/depressing. that track was very recently released with a remaster of some of his earlier work.
