What is the definitional difference between an album and a record?
Album is a compilation of songs, a record is just one song.

Winter always makes me want to listen to:Sufjan Stevens- "Greetings from Michigan: The Great Lakes State"That album will always have a special place in my heart. I found it on a Pitchfork list of the best songs of 2003, and I can still remember the sentence that caught my eye (something about Michael Moore and clowns running for President). It was the beginning of what I would call my love-affair with indie-rock. I'm an unabashed Pitchfork drone, mostly because it was my only source for music for a very long time. I've since branched out, and have made at least SOME friends with musical tastes that resemble my own, but I download most albums on their "Best Of..." lists every year, and while I won't rule out an album if they pan it, I'll still give most albums that get 8.4+ a shot. I have also been listening to the Shins a little bit (I ignore them for months at a time), and rocking Built to Spill pretty hard lately. Let's do the iPod shuffle thing:Yo La Tengo- Spec BebopFlying Lotus- Sleepy DinosaurJustice- Let There Be LightClipse- Wamp Wamp (What It Do)Guillemots- Made Up Love Song #43 (I always feel guilty when I consider deleting this from my 500 song iPod, and feel faggy when I keep it)Joanna Newsom- SadieOf Montreal- Faberge Falls for ShuggieLindstrom- Fast and DeliriousThe Wrens- Boys You Won'tMax Tundra- The EntertainmentNo Radiohead. Amazing. I actually kept "next"ing to see how long the streak would last, and I made it all the way to 38 songs. Probably never ever happen again.

Apparently there are Eraser remixes floating around somewhere and I totally missed the boat. I haven't even looked yet, but there's like a 90+% chance Four Tet has a remix on there somewhere.

I haven't really listened to the Eraser remixes all the way through. I just saw that The Field remixed "Cymbal Rush," which is my favourite track on the disc, so I put that on first. I've listened to it all the way through like 8 times. It's pretty sweet, but I like The Field's brand of micro/house. Wang

To get powered-up for my date tonight, I am doing the following:Listening to Criminology (Raekwon), Show You How to Hustle (Re-Up Gang), and Shakey Dog (Ghostface) over and over again, and saying "Valkyrie... shot the potion!" to myself for no reason. I... believe my descent into madness has accelerated.

Lykke Li is my Friday night mix. Pretty much hating tonight since I cannot go out, as I may be called into EMT. But I'll put on a santa hat, pretend I'm cheerish, and avoid society.

I'm using this last.fm program to listen to music right now. You know the thing that scrobbles your music? I like the 'radio' function where you put in the name of an artist you feel like listening to, and it plays a mix of their music and similar artists. All the tracks are full length and album quality, and there are no adverts or presenters/DJs, just continuous music. It's a great way to find new songs/artists, and the selection is usually excellent. If you don't like a song you can skip it or block it (my only blocked song is some U2 one... no U2 for me EVER). That sounded kinda spammy, but I just thought it was fun and useful, especially if like me you put most of your music on an external hard drive and can't play it on the go. Yes, I know that was stupid but my laptop is shitty and only has 30gb memory.

We are a subject one day, with our vanities, our loves, our worries, and then one day, abruptly, we become nothing but an object, an absolutely disgusting pile of shit. We pass very quickly from one stage to the next. It's very bizarre. It will happen to all of us, and fairly soon too. We become an object you can handle like a stone, but a stone that was someone.

yeah, i use it too, it's awesome. there's also some thing called Pandora that you all might be interested in, you should check it out, unless, like me, you're in Canada. I hear it's super cool.

You can get 2 terabytes of memory for like $150. Get an external, it's worth it. Also, I haven't used last.fm, and I've never heard/seen the term "scrobbles" in my life, but Pandora Radio sounds like the same thing. I don't know what came first, but it is a solid website. www.pandora.com

I like the way the last.fm one also scrobbles what you listen to so there is a record of it. I feel like no other radio program would do that, but I am open to sales pitches.

Dude, didn't you see the part where I said "especially if like me you put most of your music on an external hard drive". I have a 500gb one here in KS and a 250gb one back home.'Scrobble' is the word last.fm uses for how it tracks what you listen to and puts it online so your friends/you can see. My page is here: http://www.last.fm/user/ladygrey152 It tracked all the songs you see on the front page from the 'radio station' I am listening to.

i am a big fan of last.fm, personally.can someone explain why germans are so wont to ban people on soulseek? don't they understand that they're my only avenue of obtaining kante's new orchestral album?

I was replying to you on the BOH topic as well, when I looked up at the quote and there was no mention of it. Thought I was crazy for a second.Saw BOH twice over the summer, I wasn't a huge fan then and I still am not. I do like most of their first record, and fwiw I think they're very good live. That being said, thought the second record was lacking.

ha.i haven't seen them live--are they a good show or not? as to their albums, i'm a really, really big fan of the first one, and although i didn't really like the second one at first, it's definitely growing on me. i think my initial off-puttedness was due to the weirdness of the first track.

Oh yeah they're awesome live, their stage presence is noticeable and they all seem to be having a great time while on stage. They'll always crack some jokes to the crowd and some of them come off very much as an inside joke but the laughter is contagious.
