I know this is a feel play, but I wonder if I made the right move here.Home Game 5-handed$1/$2 2-7 TDAfter 2 draws my hand was 23579. I can't remember specifics, but I had made some valuable discards, and put in at least 2 bets on every street. My lone opponent (at this stage in the hand) stood pat before me, so I broke my 9 'cause I didn't think my opponent could stand pat in front of me w/ a worse hand. I've played quite a bit of Heads Up 2-7 TD w/ him and I couldn't see him doing it. Does anyone else break this 9, or do I stand pat as well and just try for a cheap showdown???

I would stand pat and hope for cheap showdown against a random opponent. Aside avoiding busting your hand this also shows strength in your hand, which could induce a check by him. But this is not a random opponent and you surely no more about him than myself. Just be prepared to fold, as your odds of improving are not very good (you can expect to improve or remain 97 high about 1 in 5 times if you choose to draw.)

Not sure if you're still around...breaking your 9 was the right move if you think he's got an 8 or 7. You've just gotta hope you can hit your hand. I think if you've got a 9 or 10 after the last draw, you can check/call. If you get anything worse, I think a check/fold might be in order.

I broke the 9, he stayed pat. I paired on my draw and folded obviously. The funny thing is he showed his hand and it was something like this: A3459. He thought he made a good nine, then we informed him Aces played high. It had been a while since he'd played 2-7 TD, and he forgot the rules. I felt kind of like an ass for breaking a good hand, but just seemed so confident ('cause he didn't know the rules).

Don't get into results based thinking. You made the right move based on your read. 9's aren't that great and if you see your opponent stand pat in front of you, you're behind more than 50% of the time. If you had an 8, it might be a different story.

no, I know about the thinking. I made the right play, but it was a pretty funny result.
