wang checkup--- wang vs. t-ags and t-ag-ags

Recommended Posts

Before I get bombed tonight, I figured I'd get a little headstart on my monthly checkup.I decided to do something interesting. I was thinking today about how I did against other strong players. Were they contributing to my winnings? Was I treading water? Was I being picked on? I really had no idea, so I did the following...I took my 5Kish 3/6 hands for the month of December (smaller sample than my 5/10 hands... test run) and I sorted my opponents by icon/player description (for the purposes of this discussion, I only counted players that I had at least 40 hands on). I then calculated my W/L rate (kinda misleading, due to blind steals, etc....) and the number of bets I won in total from both T-ags (eagles) and T-ag-ags (moneybags).Since I'm a fan of the scientific method, I decided to do this by the book.Hypothesis: ShimmeringWang is a marginal winner or loser against other Tight-Aggressive players for the month of DecemberNull-Hypothesis: The total number of bets won/lost from Tight Aggressive players is greater than 7.5% of the total bets won during the month of December.Fuck the scientific method. Too much work. Results: The bets I won from Tags and T-Ag-ags makes up for a whopping 23% of my monthly winnings. Hypothesis is rejected. Null-hypothesis can not be rejected.Huh. I know it's a small sample, but it gives me a great degree of confidence in my game that I'm still a pretty big winning player against other good winning players, and that as I continue to move up, I have a fighting chance of REMAINING a winner, even when there are fewer bad players to pick on.Anyone else wanna weigh in on this? I just thought it was kinda fascinating. But I'm a big dork.Wang

I deleted everything except the important stuff. Everyone better get started on the night before it's too late. If you're too young, just drink 3 cans of soda, at least you'll be excited.

sample size < idea :-) i was looking through those stats after i read the post. Most players i only played 15 pots against at most.you'd probably need at least 100,000 hand database to get the number even close to right.

I'm sure, if not more. It was a fun dork-a-thon for me, though. I'm going to start keeping track on a month-to-month basis. If my winrate drops, and I notice it goes WAAAY down against Tags, I'd like to note. Not for any real purpose. Just to know. It's also fun seeing where all the money came from this month. Well, not "all the money" as in "the huge amount of money I made," but "100% of the money I made, being the complete size of the sample."Wang

Raising the turn with mid pp's.Alot of players with TAGish stats play on autopilot.  I do, and I give up on the turn way too much.
I think I win more against good players than most, but lose tons of value against calling stations when I'm playing 3+ tables. Because I just shrug and raise the turn.Yaaaay for inefficiencyWang

This problem comes up a lot for me. My PT is like a shiny new christmas toy.

you need to normalize your winnings somehowit is not very informative to tell us that 23% of you winnings come from TAs and TAGs. we also need to know what proportion of your opponents are TAs and TAGs.

I know this is completely uninformative, and just an arbitrary number. I just thought this was an interesting idea, and that if I do this for my production vs. ALL groups, and track it over time, it could be interesting.I'm a fake human being, but I do know enough about statistics to realize this number, in a vacccccuuuum, means about as much as the statement, "As a poker player, I think I'm a 7."Wang

Mr. Wang, how did you filter to get the summations/Since I'm a SLAP, my name dissappears from the list unless I'm lookng only at SLAP's.thanks.
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but...Go to the tab: MISCELLANEOUS STATSThen, the 3rd statistical info box displays your total results vs. every player. You can then sort by icon. I had to do all the calculations from there by hand.Wang

coolso you were just being nice when you acted like I gave you an answer to your problem of summing +/1 vs types?oh well.that's a lot of work.Wish we could expeort that table and sum in Excel.
Yeah, at first I thought you did... then I checked, and it didn't work. I thought I might have edited it.Wang

Here's a thought...Can't you override the AutoRate and make yourself whatever you want? Then go to Prefernces and Filter...then that leaves you and all the other like Icons?again, I'm not home, so not sure about by passing AutoRate for yourself.

OK. I agree you have a good idea. So why don't you tell us what % of players in your database are TAGs. Even better, find how many hands you have played against TAGs as opposed to all other types.

BTW, if you want to do some hardcore PT datamining, you should ask the PT forums for suggestion. If you want to do really complicated stuff, you can query the database via Access or SQL.

If you PT database is over 2 gigs, you can't open it with access. You seem like the kind of person who would have a large PT database. If this is true, there are a couple of options. First, split the database into smaller files. Second, perform queries via SQL.Again, I urge you to check the PT forum as they may be able to help you with your Access problem.

no it's got nothing to do with PT.i cant open Access.I joined the PT forumWas trying to see how I could better purge old info and keep my hands and the necessary datamined hands together, rather than starting new db's everytime one fills up and splitting the 2/4 hitory, etc..Didn't see a good answer. But Maybe if I can creat my own tables thru ACCESS Queries, that will be the solution.i just may need to get a new OFFICE disk, or try loading it again.I'm not too savvy with software bugs.
