Seat 4: goodmanpoker [AH,QD] ($57 in chips) i think everything is standard here. maybe not the flop call, but the table had been very tight, and i felt like i'd probably just get check/called by a worse ace if i raised the flop.i'm curious about the river decision - do i reraise/call or just call?ANTES/BLINDSJohnny 1313 posts blind ($1), Paddys_Da1 posts blind ($2).PRE-FLOPSwordman39 folds, seahunt folds, omaha4u folds, BrimasHD05 folds, glennc calls $2, RedRiddler1 folds, KungKonny folds, goodmanpoker bets $4, Johnny 1313 calls $3, Paddys_Da1 calls $2, glennc calls $2.FLOP [board cards AC,9H,AD ]Johnny 1313 bets $2, Paddys_Da1 folds, glennc calls $2, goodmanpoker calls $2.TURN [board cards AC,9H,AD,2H ]Johnny 1313 checks, glennc bets $4, goodmanpoker bets $8, Johnny 1313 folds, glennc calls $4.RIVER [board cards AC,9H,AD,2H,3C ]glennc checks, goodmanpoker bets $4, glennc bets $8, goodmanpoker ...

I think the villain may have A3 here. I think raise/call is probably still the best line here. A read might be helpful in allowing me to lean one way or the other though.

yeah unforunately it was relatively early and it was my first time playing on pokerroom. i was having enough trouble getting used to the software and really had no useful reads.the tables in general were playing very SLAPpy, with the occasional loose/passive - i think i'd have noticed if he was loose/passive though.

It's not much of a decision really, it's definitely a call and not a 3-bet. You're not closing the action here and you've defined your hand as having an Ace and if your check/raised on the river like that, you're usually beat. It wouldn't surprise me if your AQ was the best hand and your opponent has an Ace with a weaker kicker, but calling is still correct without a read telling you otherwise.

id like someone to take the non-standard approach to this hand.someone tell me why a flop raise is good here.please try to see past the standard "wait for the turn to raise my big hand" line.someone, please, amuse me.

Since the flop has literally no draws, I like waiting for the turn here. the weak lead-er will usually lead the turn as well and we can trap him and the other caller for more bets. I like raising the flop with trips more than waiting for the turn, but this one feels like a no brainer.

Raising the flop isn't standard?

not raising the flop is standard low limit play, though it is not standard good strategy.i guess not raising the flop is probably more "common" than "standard" in that people's automatic reaction is to not bed their big hands. however, for most of us in this forum, i think raising that flop would be considered standard.that includes me - i usually raise this flop, but only did not raise it read-dependently. in most circumstances, i think raising is correct.and since jayboogie gave me pretty much the answer i was looking for, i'll tell you what happened.i did 3-bet, he capped, i cried "oh ace-3, why do you haunt me" and called. he turned over pocket 2s
