new to rebuys

Hey all. Going to play in my first rebuy tournament (online), and have a couple of questions. What exactly is the 'add-on' and how does it work? At the end of the rebuy, does an add-on button pop up automatically? Strat wise, do I play loose early and hope to get alot of chips, and/or forcing rebuying, hoping to get alot of chips on the table? Or do I play my regular game?TIA

rebuys are generally only available if you have less than or equal to the starting stack, add on is at the end of rebuy period and anyone can take it. Yes you should get an add on button depending on the site.If its FCP/pokerroom you may have to be on the tourney page, not the table, to get it..not sure.There are different strategies during the rebuy period...maniac and rebuy till you get lucky, widen your gap to try and take advantage of loose first in callers and rebuy if you get caught, and tighten up vs maniacs and hammer them with real hands.Typical add on advice is to add on if it moves you from below average to around or above average stack. Tiny stacks and giant stacks obviously shouldnt addon. I will also addon if the blinds are close and Im around average stack.

All the sites seems to have different rules with regards to rebuys and add-ons. For FCP, you can rebuy whenever you're at or below the initial starting stack but you have to go to the tourney page - you can't rebuy at the table.For the add-on at FCP - the addon option/button pops up, but you only have the first minute of the five minute break to add-on after which you lose your option.I've changed the way that I play rebuys - I always take the rebuy and try to build up a stack as the accumulators per Copernicus' other post seem to have a big advantage over the survivalists in rebuys. I usually take the add-on unless I'm so far below average that I don't think that the additional investment is worth it.Players are looser and are likely to call down or jam with much looser standards during the rebuy phase than in a freezeout. It can be very loose and wild in the first part of the rebuy phase if you're at a maniac table. I would push any edge in that situation.
