I have a huge problem of acting before thinking. If I get excited or caught up in a hand I will make decisions before I ever think about them. Every time I do this I end up losing a substancial amount. If I were to plug this leak in my game, I am positive that I would be a much better player. Here is an example. Im playing in www.Pokerroom.com's .25-.50 NL ring games. I think there were 7 or 8 people at the table. I had just come into the room so I have only played a few hands. I am in the big blind and I see a pair of 4's. By the time it came back around to me there were 2 limpers, one in middle and one on the button. the flop came Ks Kh 7c. I checked and it checked all the way around. I was pretty sure that someone had a set of kings and was just slowplaying. the turn card came 2h. I checked and it checked all the way around. I was very suprised at this, I was pretty sure some one would lead out here and bet. Finally the river came 4c. I now had a kings full of fours full house. I lead out and bet first, then the guy in middle position folded, and the guy on the button raised me all in. Now before he went all in there was only about 6 dollars in the pot. His all in was a raise of 21 dollars, and that should have sent warning signs off in my head, but before I even thought about it, I clicked the call button, only for him to turn over pocket 7's and a better full house. Now if I would have thought about calling for one minute heres what would have been going through my head. First of all when the first bet was on him before the flop came, there was only the 2 blinds and the one person in middle position in the pot. He just limped in, therefore eliminating AK KQ, or KK. If he had pocket 2's I would think he would try to bet at someone slowplaying the set of kings after the 2 fell on the turn. I didnt think he would come into the pot with K7, K2, or K4. So by the time all the cards were out, the only logical thing I could have but him on after checking all the way and then raising such a large all-in would be pocket 7's. Im not saying if I would have thought about it that I would have put him on exactly what he had, but I would have a much better understanding of what the hell I am up against. I have noticed this in live games too, If I am really caught up in a situation I just dont think. This doesnt happen too ofter but when it does, it really makes me think about the holes in my game. So I need some advice... How can I settle down and just think things through before I make a decision. Even if I have the nuts, I want to be able to just sit there and think about what I am doing so that I can get the most value out of my hand. So either tell me how to be calmer and cooler at the table or send me some vicatin. Thanks in advance
