They both look great.Nice hands.EDIT: I'de like some opinions on the river raise on the first one. That seems a little dangerous...but I have no read. I've been bet into with trip fives plenty of times in this situation.

I'm a gigantical wuss, but I don't like when people wake up on a river like that. I'll call and hope they were bluffing, or had like AT and were fearful of some random bizarro 2-pair. That's a case where I DO see a river raise as a zero expectation bet, and a likely reraise if UTG did suddenly make something decent. At the same time, it's hard to get a read on UTG. Someone yell at me if I'm being weak-tight, but there I just call (and possibly lose value). At the same time betting out is weird, because you'd expect to get check-raised if he made something, unless he fears that he'd be checked-behind. Weird river. As said, I call there and hope to see WTF he was playing that way from UTG.Second hand: Well played. Good fearless aggression, not worrying about the A (though I'll bet you were shown A-rag with a gutshot, like A2 or A3), you were never taken out of the lead, I see no problem there. Nice, and a good stab for value on the river. Strongly played, and rightly so.

Normally, if there was anyone behind you in the first example, you should simply call and go for the over-calls...that way you lose less win you lose and win more win you win...here there was noone behind you.Let's consider. If you raise, you win two extra bets when you're good and lose two extra when you're bad...He will have trip fives less than 50% of the time IMO, so raising seems correct.Someone tell me where my thinking is at....gutter or right on?

I looked at the river raise as a value raise. I had and normally fire and keep on firing if they are being passive with over cards, I didn't like the wake up on the end, but when he didn't raise back I thought the raise was for value, in this case i was beat.

Awful, you are correct. You don't see many people bluff the river.Smooth calling the bet looks like your best option.
