This is a 1/2 NL game on Full Tilt. I have $260 in front of me, my opponent has $650 in front of him. My opponent is a good player, and he'll put his money in if he feels he has the best of it. He'll also fold when he doesnt have the best of it.My image at the table is very tight, I think I've shown down a set a couple times. I have AKo in the MP2Villain raise to $4 in MP1He's been raising minimum like that a lot and he usually has something to back it up I just call, along with the BB. I think my call was a mistake, but I hate reraising with AK especially when I'm confident that my opponent has a decent hand.Flop: A :D Q :D 5 :D He leads at the flop for $8, I smooth call planning to raise the turn. Other player folds.Turn: 5 :) He leads for $28, I raise it to 80, he instacalls.I think he's scared of me here. He's got an A, and it's probably AQ or AK. I have a big enough stack so that he's afraid of the money. That's what I'm seeing with his instacall: FEAR. River: 8 :club: He leads at me for $62.First thought that comes to mind is that this is a blocking bet. I'm even more sure that he's scared with his AK. Also, my raise on the turn can definitely represent a set. After the hand he asked me if I had a 5, and I told him that I had a boat. He wouldnt tell me what he had, but it had to be AK. So am I crazy for making that move?

This is really a play thats based on your opponent. If you think you can get him to fold AK or AQ its definitely worth running. To say your opponent is afraid of a set is a bit unusual here though imo. If hes a competent player he'd have to realize that AA and QQ are pretty unlikely considering your cold call preflop. As is I like the river raise. I agree that it looks like a stopper bet as its 62 into nearly 200. The pots huge so if you dont need to fold AK to often here for this to be worthwhile.I think you're getting called by AQ as your opponent is getting over 4:1 on the call.

Yeah, it's a good read. I dunno if I like the play so much. If he calls and turns over AQ we look like jackalopes. But, then again, on a paired board, I probably don't call off 162 with out the boat, so, maybe it is a good bet.Hm..Yeah, I'm kinda starting to like it.I struggle with these online questions, because I have no "reading" ability online. I can read people at the B&M, but this online stuff kinda throws me for a loop.Nice play though.

That's the kind of play I make online, but every time the idiot turns over AQ. I like the move, and think it's gutsy, but I just don't think I have enough confidence in opponents to fold here for it to be worthwhile over the long haul.

well. the question is are you crazy for making that move. The answer is yes, but in a good way. It was definately a crazy play, a good one if you put him on AK or AQ, however, looking back on the hand, i think he definately could have played a flush draw the same way. regardless of that, it is essential that you put a guy on a hand and be confident with your reads. so, good hand. duh

the point of this post is?
Asking if he overplayed AK and should just call the river I would think
I wouldnt call what I did with the AK an "overplay", I think I'm stealing the pot more than anything, and that was my intention.I think this post could be helpful to other players as well as myself. I actually didnt know what the right play was. I just learned about "blocking bets" the other day, and what he was doing looked like a textbook example of it. I thought I would post this to find out if the play is good and makes any sense. Knowing when you're being blocked can help you steal pots, I guess is the moral of the story.

A block bet is a small bet relative to the size of the pot hoping to get a cheap show down when you aren't sure if you have the best hand or not.I like the play but you were likely ahead the whole time anyway.I love raising the hell out of blocker bets

He leads at me for $62.First thought that comes to mind is that this is a blocking bet. I'm even more sure that he's scared with his AK. Also' date=' my raise on the turn can definitely represent a set.[/color']Isn't that such a rush when you make a bold play like this putting the villain to the ultimate test...every second seems like an hour, your heart is racing, and you recite to yourself "fold, fold, fold, foLD, FOLD, FOLD ALREADY DAMMIT!!!then you see his cards slide into the muck and you let out a huge sigh of relief...maybe even jumping up and down, pumping your fist's tiger woods style. lolanyway, I really liked the reraise instead of the call here on the river, thats some solid poker Petoria, bravo. I probably would have just called and have his "blocked bet" showdown work in his favor. Guess thats why im still playing .10/.25nl and no longer $1/$2nlWhere did you read about this "blocking bet"? care to elaborate?

It's funny how I read about it, then ideal situation for it comes up.Yes, I was screaming "fold, Fold, FOLD" at my computer, then my eyes go slightly out of focus and I can see his time is running and out then his cards go into the muck. It really is a surreal moment. I dont think theres any other feeling like that. It's like sex without the fun. :-)
