Date / Time: 2005-12-14 19:59:00 Title: Antonius Lays Down the Ladies Log: Before the flop Patrick Antonius raised to 110,000. The tabled folded around to James Van Alstyne. Van Alstyne re-raised all in, approximately 560,000 more. Antonius pondered his decision and finally folded turning over pocket Queens. What does everyone think of this? I believe they were only playing 5,000-10,000 blinds when he shoved in 110,000. Are we missing something or did Antonius lay down the queens to one reraise? And did he really just raise 11x the big blind preflop. Plus he was getting about 1.4-1 on his money. 110+110+560=780-560On another note, Brunson must be playing excellent. We never see him in the Cardplayer coverage, so he's staying out of trouble, but still is in 6th chip position.

Have you ever seen Van Alstyne play? He's about as tight as it gets, and at a full table, QQ can definitely be counterfeited by KK or AA by the time it gets to the blinds. It's one of the dangers of raising with it in EP - you have 7-8 more players who can potentially wake up with a better hand and put you in a tough spot, or re-raise you and put you in a tough spot (even though the pot odds were juicy). Plus, since we can assume Van Alstyne is VERY tight and solid, the only 3 things I'd put him for his go all-in requirements, (I am assuming) for that amount in the tournament would be either KK (which would be the second choice, because Van alstyle might but Antonius on AK or AQ and doesn't want him to catch his Ace), AA, or most likely, AK (probably suited). If that's the case, maybe Antonius decided that he just didn't want to race for that amount of chips.Now, Van Alstyne could definitely was trying to steal here with AQ or a lower suited Ace, but I don't know if he has the balls to do that (or maybe make a similair move with 10's or even 8's), but knowing the information I see, I think it's a good fold in a middle of a major tournament where you are one of the chip leaders. If it was me, I'd probably put him on AKs (especially since he re-raised all-in, mostly likely he doesn't want to see a flop), and even then, I'd still consider a fold to be a right choice.

It's not that big a laydown.. we'd probably fold from early position in a full-handed cashgame against a tight player as well..

I don't know. It seems kind of weird to shove in 11x the big blind with QQ (my guess is overbetting to make it look like they have nothing) and then fold to a big reraise. Since the guest said he was a rock I it's understandable.

It's JAMES VAN ALSTYNE, I almsot fold KK in that situation. QQ is an easy laydown.
