I'll be playing a charity tournament this coming weekend and would like to know, how to handle playing a blind structure that has a 20 min blind change in the 1st 6 levels, then changing to 15 min. there after. There is still a BUY IN and ADD ON until 6th level.BUY IN is $50.00 (2000 chips)ADD ON Is $10.00( 1000 chips)REBUY is $50.00(2000 chips)what would be the general style of play? Are people going to tend to go ALL IN more or are people mre willing to take chances since there is a REBUY!Basically those with money will probably have a better chance of winning??what do you guys think?? I don't want to REBUY! Is there any tips from you players???

You should probably limit yourself to 2 or 3 buyins + an addon. Think of it more as a $100 or $150 tourney. If you dont leave yourself the option of rebuying, then you are at a significant disadvantage, especially if everybody else knows that you're not going to rebuy. Play tight. Play premium hands early. Always add on in this situation. Not sure what else I can tell you.
The path
of the righteous man is beset on
all sides by the inequities of the
selfish and the tyranny of evil
men. Blessed is he who, in the
name of charity and good will,
shepherds the weak through the
valley of darkness, for he is truly
his brother's keeper and the finder
of lost children.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those
who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

LMAO!!!wow. who ever organized this event is a money making genius. Good for the charity, bad for you.Unless you plan to spend 600.00 at this thing, i wouldnt think too much about it.with re-buys up till the 6th level, you will be forced with all in decisions very often.basically, just keep pushing with strong hands and try to build a nice chunk, and then coast for a while.

call me stupid, and I know you will, but how do these charity things work? can you actually win something or does it all go to charity?

Don't Play! This structure is horrendous, rendering it a complete and total crapshoot. If the charity tournament has side games, play those instead. Otherwise, just deposit the money online and play some online tournaments. You'll get better bang for your buck that way.

The way I've seen them work in Ohio is that a chunk of the prize pool is paid out to the winners and a chunk is paid out to the charity. Don't know about anywhere else though.

Guess it depends on where it is and how its set up. As for the playing. Id probably push a lot and often. Easier to build up early and better with that blind structure, plus you'd at least be able to chalk it up to "hey, its for charity" when you rebuy

If this is a charity you want to support, play and have fun experimenting with whatever style you want. Dont go into it with the idea of making anymoney, because you might as well be playing high card wins or RoShamBo.

The charity is for a theatre group! I have no affiliation but just dying to play poker live. Most of the players will be actors, so it should be interestingmix of players! The payout is to the top 10, so with BUY In and REBUYS and ADDONS! It should be a good good pot! I agree I just don't like this rebuy part of it!!! I guess this in itself would be a good test of my poker abilities!!More of a challenge to overcome actors/buy in etc..!!I'll post my results after if i decide to play! It's this sunday afternoon!Thanx for all the tips!!!
