live 5/10, huge pot with not much of anything

Recommended Posts

Normal 5/10 live game. Tons of bad players, CO is mediocre. One of those uncreative old guys.Delt A5 :D in mpUTG limps, UTG+1 limps, UTG +2 limps, i limp from MP, CO raises, button calls, sb calls, bb calls, all limpers callSo we go to the flop 8 handed (16 sb)8 :D 2 :D 6 :club: Checked to the CO who bets, button calls, sb folds, bb calls, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG + 2 calls, I decide to peel getting over 20:1 and closing the actionPot: (11.5bb)Turn 3 :) Basically the best card I can get as I now have a gutshot and the nut flush draw. Checked to the CO again who bets, button calls, bb calls, UTG calls, UTG + 1 calls, UTG+2 calls, I raise . Ended up back to me 3-bet with everyone still coming along so I capped it.On the river I hit a non board pairing spade and took down a pot somewhere in excess of 40 bb vs 88 and a medley of hands that you'd only see people call down with at low limit live games. Now my question here is 7 handed am I overplaying my hand here vs what seems to be a set or can I basically do no wrong here as I have 10 outs even vs a set and I'm only putting in 14% of the $.

Where is this game and how soon will it take me to get there?Basically, I think you can do no wrong here. I don't love the cap, just because you're not drawing to the best hand here, a possible best hand, but if the board pairs, you could be beat and have to call down if it's a spade, and there could be a lot of river action.I think this is a classic button value bet for a loose game.

Hmmm .... My first thought is that the flop call might be a little loose. With that many people in the pot, and given your hand, it looks like you're going to have to get really lucky to win this. Almost definitely runner-runner is needed. You're looking to flop a flush, or maybe a straight with this hand and you miss by a mile. I'd say your best play is to fold on the flop. That being said, after you make the call, and the 3s shows up, I think you have to see the river. I don't know if the raise is right, but either way, you've picked up a lot of outs, and are likely mathmatically correct either way, with everyone calling.

Was getting over 20:1 on my call on the flop so figured it was worth peeling. Most live games are actually this weak. Thing is i'm wondering if we're missing value in a lot of these huge pots by not pushing an equity edge that's basically equivalent to what we would push if it was 4 handed on the flop with a flush draw.Turningstone casino in NY absurdly weak limit games. Place isnt that nice but if you're between 18-21 and lacking in the fake id department its a decent place to play.

Are you looking for a pat on the back? You're putting in 1/7th of the bets, and you have 9 or 10 outs, making you, at worst, about 3.5-1 to make a hand. It's like free money. You know this.Ice

No not looking for a pat on the back at all. I just see situations like this arise pretty often and dont seem to go through with it all the way. Like are you still raising / capping this without a straight draw and say a flush draw that is 10 high. Are you raising / capping this if its just 5 way? I think my biggest leak in live play is not pushing my equity advantage enough on the turn when I have draws vs huge fields, so figured i'd post a hand where I did and see if people thought of it as overplayed.

I think it would have been a bad turn raise if you knew the CO would probably 3-bet and other people would fold. Seems like you knew even if he 3-bet they'd all still call, in that case, I like it.
