I read this article online forget where. It says in low limit poker only play top hands from second to the button and blinds. I tried this out and dropped all playable hands such as KQ A suited pairs 22 to 99 from early position. Of course i still played AA, KK QQ, ak early. But i folded aq aj kj etc.It has helped my bankroll in the last two days greatly. For one it takes alot of patience and waiting, you spend alot of time figuring out players. As well makes you more confident going into a flop knowing you always playing in position. Now i don't know what the long term success will be but i will keep at it for at least 1000 hands and let you know.I know this is extremely tight play but online you can be extremely tight. Not many people notice. I made 30 bucks in the last two days with this method at the .50/1.00Played 3.5 hours. Could just be coincidence. I will keep ya posted. If anyone else wants to give it it a try for day i would like to hear ya results

You have less variance, but your EV goes way down.

EV is Expected Value, the mathematical calculation of your expected results from betting. You're giving up some profitable situations in those games, but since you win those less often, but win big when you hit, that's why he explained that your variance drops and your EV drops. You're making fewer good bets, but they're solid, sound ones.

Thanks for the definition. I guess what i am doing right now is playing what i think is the tightest tightest form of poker. I want to see if it in the long run is worth while. I definately know that i am missing out on action. I folded a few hands where i could have won. Like J10 and stuff. I will let you know how i do after a week.

Mark, youre starting out on the right foot. Learning early in your playing days that tight is right, is a good way to start. Eventually you will learn to play many other hands as well. But continue to do what youre doing and invest in some study tools, books, dvd's, or just google stuff. you'll learn fast.

I have been playing for a year and a bit. Just trying something new. Going back to basics. I actually did better in my early days online, however since i play alot live now, it messes with the online play. I just think, online low limits, you have to play tight tight. I read a few books but never pay much attention to pot odds. I think wrto will give me crap cause i stayed in a pot with 84suited in the big blind and beat his AA. I got the flush but i was big blind and there was i think 5 or 6 people in the pot.But i think i have a good understanding when not to chase an open ended straight, and when i should. To me I like to chase open ended straights or flush draws, when there is many people in a hand but i won't when its heads up. But from this one website i read, the author uses this theory as a bible, and isaid whatthe hell, i will try it out. So far so good, but to early to tell.
