I'm playing it just like you did, I think paying his flush off for one bet is worse than folding ot his AJ. You're getting 10:1 to call, I think you have the best hand more than 1 out of 10 times. If he checks the river I check behind.

just call flop betraise a safe turnthat's not a safe turn.you can then fold this turn if BB leads out.as playedyou can fold this river.
You just gave a lone queen the correct odds to hit a gutshot on the turn, which it hit. Now you're dead.

Are you being serious?I think we protect our hand better by waiting when our equity edge is greater, too.

Why do you want to give gutshots/other pairs a profitable chance to see another card?
given implied odds, gut shots can call 2 often profitably, on flop, right? On turn we can protect against weak draws and even strong draws are drawing very marginally facing two. Not sure; but isn't this a "wait till turn" to protect hand scenario?

Nope.5.5:1 is not enough to chase a gutshot. 8:1 is usually the standard.

It's not. This is because we can protect against weak draws now. If we wait for the turn, we will also be able to protect our hand, but we will give our opponents an extra opportunity to hit their weak draws. Also, a scare card may come on the turn that freezes us. I feel a lot better about that jack hitting if I raise the flop then if I call and get lead into on the turn.

well, that may explain my loose chasing and Frowny Face Icon! With the final pot, being 11BB's and no one raising the bigger streets, I imagine he gets the 21.5 SB's he needs to hit his 10.75:1 gutshot, allowing no outs for any other draw he may have.still wrong? :club:

Let's assume button has a gutshot draw.He will get 6:1 (assuming BB calls, and does not raise), on his call. If he needs 10.75:1 to call, that means he needs to make up:4.75 x 2sb = 9.5sb or 4.75bbon the later streets. If we factor in the rake, that comes out to about 5bb.If a jack comes of, he's not going to get very much action, unless another jack is out.A one card gutshot may end up splitting the pot, and even if they don't, it will bet very difficult for them to make up the bets. Best case scenario, it may work out to a bit above break even. Worse case is much worse. Someone with say KK, has redraws, and KQ has Qx drawing near dead.
