overcards don't scare me

Recommended Posts

i don't know of any better hands that are folding therei can't think of too many hands here that raise either so i'm not concerned about leaving yourself open to a raise herei think it all depends on your opponentif you think he would take a shot at the pot ifyou check to him i would do thatif he's loose passive and will call down a lot of hands, bet only a few if you check to him, and not fold very much i'm all for betting like you didup to the river i play the exact same way and i probably play the river the same too, but i play 1/2 and that becomes a much clearer value bet at 1/2 than 3/6

Haven't read replies.I like it up to the river and then it's read dependent. I like to check/call in these situations usually to give my opponent a chance to bluff his missed diamond draw. He won't call with a busted draw, but he may bet.If villain is somewhat likely to bluff, check/call the river. If he's a passive calling station, bet/fold.Jeff

He's neither over aggresive, nor a passive calling station. He's a decent, straightforward player. I've been trying to value bet a lot more at 6-max because people call you down with nothing. I've had very good success with it so far. While villian could have a diamond draw, it's more likely he has JJ/a pp below ten given the action. Also, a busted draw won't bluff at this board all that often. If I check the turn after 3-betting pf and betting the whole way, I'm telling him I'm committed to sd.

I really think its read dependent on the river. If you think he has a smaller pp, an Ax, or a busted draw then a value bet is probably the right move.his call on the turn is what scares me, you claimed he was a decent player at the 3/6 level, so his call here would make me more inclined to just check the river and call his bet.

Why does his call scare you?To me it indicates he either a small pp or a flush draw. Any king is raising the turn. I think JJ/a set usually throws in a raise somewhere too. Two high cards like AQ probably give up when I bet the turn. So his most likely holdings are a pp smaller than mine, or a busted fd. Now he may have paired his queen with a busted flush draw, but he certainly won't raise the river if he did pair, but he'll probably bet if checked to. I lose the same either way.If he has a busted draw, he's going to be discouraged to bluff given the way I've played the hand. I've shown strength all the way to the river, and a river check basically indicates that I want to see sd cheaply with a marginal hand. Most people aren't bluffing here. For the same reason, a pp won't value bet. However, a pp may call a bet, hoping I have a busted draw, to high unpaired cards like AJ, or a smaller pp.
