What do you guys think would be a good bankroll for playing MTT's?There is a lot out there for SNG's but my search did not pull up much for multi table tourneys. Obviously a lot would depend on the size of the tourney's played. For example if you always play 180 pers. tourneys the variance would be different than playing 500 pers. tourneys (regardless of buy in). This makes it a bit more difficult as most MTT's are not of a constant size or buy in. I would assume that there should be a way to derive a general bankroll formula that takes the variance and buy in into consideration. Any thoughts? :?:

Whatever you have in mind, it's too small. If I were you, I'd focus instead on beating cash games reliably, and taking the excesses from that to play tournaments when you're feeling like it. You can't get good at one without getting at least a little better in the other.Tournament variance and expectations are entirely too incomprehensible to say that you can have "a stable bankroll" to play tournaments.
Always bet like you've got a pair.

SNG's are a great way to bring in cash, I think they may even be more profitable than cash games at low limits. the 10+1 on party are a gold mine

I'm not sure that there really is a rule for MTT's, but from my experience common sense and discipline are just as good as any rule.I don't know exactly how much you've played but it seems like you have enough experience to just go with your gut and play where you're comfortable. The most important thing IMO is to step down in limits if you start running bad and lose a big chunk of your bankroll. As long as you're a winning player and willing to move down in limits you run a very low risk of going broke.I think 30 buy-ins are recommended for STT's, and obviously MTT's have much greater variance, but if I were playing MTT's full time I would have no problem playing with 40 buy-ins to start, knowing of course that I will move down in limits if my BR starts to drop. If I hit it big and started making a lot of money, I'd work on keeping 100+ buy-ins.I'd also like to add that I feel like playing out of your BR isn't that big of a deal in MTT's. If your normal game is a 50+5 buy-in and you have a roll of 2500 or so, I see no problem in playing the occasional 150+12 or 200+15 if you think you have an edge.

This probably sounds insane, but I wouldn't feel comfortable playing on any less than $6k in $100 buyin MTTs. I have a few friends who believe that MTTs are just a leak--the variance is sick.I've made a nice amount at the $20 180 person tournaments on Stars. I would think that $1k would be enough of a bankroll for them.

realistically, i think something closer to 70 or 80 buy-ins for the level you play would be right.
