player notes - (internet games)

Recommended Posts

Hi,If anybody can answer this then it would be of massive help to my game. I once received some advice from Roy Cooke regarding how he makes notes on a player. He said that he effectively has a number of elements which he scored players against (IE positive / negative) and that once complete this would give him a good idea of the players general makup (He probably worded it much better than me!!). This was great, but unfotunately i could'nt find out what the initial elements were.As per my previous post, i've just started making detailed notes on players but a system such as the one above would be of great help. Does anybody use such a system and if so could the let me know the elements that they use to evaluate their opponents. Or alternatively just their own system for making notes. Many thanks in advanceHH

What I use now is a bit more automated and you can still choose what you want shown as far as stats.First get pokertracker at pokertracker.com, have it do liveupdates to the database as you play, then get playerview from playerview.net. Playerview will put various stats updated whenever you have tracker doing the updates from locally stored handhistories (this really only works with party and skins and perhaps UB).So basically next to each person's name I have it giving me vp$ip, preflop raise percent, and overall postflop aggression, along with how many hands I have on them. Unlike office it puts it directly on the actual client window and next to the name. And as I said, it's very configurable so you can choose what stats you want.My friend likes like 8 stats, but I prefer just having 2-3 I care about, along with knowing how big my hand sample is. In the upper left corner of the table I also having it showing the table's overall vp$ip and pfr%.To see what it looks like check out:http://www.playerview.net/layouts.htmlThese are various layout samples.

basically, keep the notes to a minimum so you can quickly reference them. Mine all suck.. mine ramble and are useless.Basically note whether they are tight/loose (pre-flop)aggressive/passive (post-flop)% of flops they tend to see.Do they play positional pre-flop, or do they call UTG with Q2 off?Tilter? % of time they raise pre-flop.What do they call to the river with?and i take general notes on good players when I see good plays. i make sure i note that they "know what they're doing". or "pay attention to this guy", etc. Generally when I see these guys fold a lot pre-flop, then raise pre-flop, i can tell they are isolationists and probably know what they're doing. Guys who raise in the BB when 6 ppl limp in... etc. Obviously a good more with any kind of hand. Most simple form would be T/A for good limit players who play tight/agg.orL/P for bad limit players who play loose/passive. That is very quick and easy.

I dont have a system. I just take note on how they play. Since there are so many players online and alot of times you may never run into them again, I just try to get a basic idea of how they play and go from there.I play against alot of bad players, and alot of times they usually dont change the way they play so if I see a couple of hands I can get a basic idea on how to play against them.May not be the best way but it has worked for me.
