RECENTLY I WAS IN A TOURNAMENT AND FOUND MYSELF AT THE FINAL TABLE WITH ABOUT 4,000.00 IN CHIPS 9 HANDED. THE TWO BIG STACKS AT THE TABLE WERE A CASE STUDY IN THEMSELVES. SO I AM IN THE BIG BLIND AT 800 CHIPS. AS I WATCH THE TABLE I SEE THE FIRST BIG STACK CALL MY BLIND. ( THIS GUY WOULD PLAY ALOT OF POTS BUT WOULD FOLD IMMEDIATELY IF HE DID NOT CATCH HIS HAND ) THEN THE SECOND BIG STACK CALLED MY 800 ( THIS GUY WAS ABOUT THE SAME TYPE OF PLAYER AS THE FIRST BIG STACK ) SO EVERYONE ELSE FOLDS TO ME. I LOOK DOWN AND SEE 10-3 SUITED. SO I DECIDE TO MOVE ALL MY CHIPS IN LOOKING TO STEAL THE POT. THE FIRST CALLER FOLDS AND THE SECOND CALLS. HE FLIPS OVER POCKET 7s AND I LOST THE RACE. I AM JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON HOW I COULD BETTER HAVE PLAYED THIS HAND.MATT

Seems like a pretty random move. If you say that neither player will play on if they don't hit, you could hope for a good flop, then make the decision on whether to push in. I think that it would be better to just see another round before moving in. You can still scare ppl away by tripling the big blind.

yeah, since you had a free look at the flop this might've been best, then agaon you were short stacked, but with the small blind taking you down to 3600 you then would have about eight hands to find an Ace or better(the ace being any ace)

Since you say that both players would likely fold if they missed the flop, you might have waited until the flop to push all-in. This way, if the flop came with overcards you could have pushed out the pocket 7s. Just a thought.

Im not a big fan of the move in for all your chips play to steal blinds, especially since it seems like you were somewhat short stacked. If I have a big stack then I would not have as much of an issue since with the big stack you should be a bully.I would have just seen the flop for free and gone from there.BUT hind site is 20/20 or however that saying goes.

I don't like this bet. There's 2,800 in the pot and it's only going to cost either of the big stacks another 3,200 to call you. That's about 50-50, not too mention it knocks someone out, so I'd imply that into the percentages when I consider making the call by adding +5% or so to my chances. Second big stack could be limping with K-J or a similar hand. if he puts you on low pockets, He considers himself 50-50 to win. He's GOING to call you. If he's limping on middle pockets, wanting to see his flop as you say, he could put you on 2 over cards, and again, it's about 50-50 and you're just about guaranteed a caller. Check to see the flop and then decide to make the move. If you fold and get through the small blind, you've still got 2,800 to work with, granted it's only 3.5xbb, but you've given yourself 8 more chances to pick up a hand better than 10-3.

Yeah, I agree that its not that good of an idea to push at this point. If you wait to see the flop you could very well push them out if some overcards come and besides, what kind of hand do you think will call you? Usually one where you are in a lot of trouble, you were lucky to have one overcard to his pair (which isn't a race btw)

What race? It wasn't even close...you were a 2:1 underdog. I think that hand is too weak to push all-in with.
