blinds battles go drip drip?

Recommended Posts

When playing full ring LHE games (and NLHE to a degree also), I often find it easier to just fold the SB w/ marginal (but perhaps better than average) cards when it folds to me. Like...J9o or Q8o. I know these hands are better than average, and I'd be raising in most tournament situations, but in a cash game, I'm not sure it's worth the risk just to pick up the BB...particularly if I'm against halfway competent players. If I get called, I'm going to be out of position the whole hand w/ mediocre cards, which I loathe. Is it a leak to just fold in this spot most of the time? Most of the time, it's rare that I play a table tight enough for this to happen regularly, so I'm guessing that it's a small leak, but I guess I need to get more comfortable in this situation if I'll eventually be moving up, right?

why would it be a leak? this is not a problem at all.in fact, the "leak" part for most people comes in NOT folding, i.e. spewing in pointless blind battles over isnanely marginal/borderline "edges" that might not even be there.as you move up (and also the shorter the table gets), these edges become more distinct because blind play is perhaps one of the biggest areas that differentiate good players from great players.aseem

I agree with aki on this one.Cash games are all about picking your battles and playing them agressively. Why scrap over the cost of a small blind, when it is never increasing in proportion to your chipstack?I think the leak would be putting in 3xBB in order to protect the equivalent of .5BB.Tourneys are obviously different, especially later in tournaments and bubble time.Dev

You wouldn't raise A4o from UTG+1 would you? It's ahead of everything but pocket pairs and better aces!!Limit is where you exploit those tiny edges. No limit is where you crush players because of the mistakes they make.
