Anyone here going to be at the Trop in AC next weekend? I'm heading up ther sat morning and staying the night there. Isn't there a NLHE tourney around noon? Anyone know if it's a good one?

Be very careful in Atlantic City.Keep your money in a money belt. Trust me, a friend of mine had about $5,000 stolen last month, I think it was at the Tropicana. Oh... and security there could care less and prevented her from reporting it to the police.Very shady.

I have been to AC numerous times and am going back this Saturday (although, with beloved Sheffield United playing Arsenal on TV Saturday morning, that may change my departure time), anyway ... the last time I played in the Trop's Saturday tournament, it was $50+15 with rebuys for the first hour and an addon at the end of the hour. I must admit I do not remember the starting chip count that you got. The blinds went up really quick, there is a break after every 3 levels (20 minutes each). I played decently well, had a nice stack between that and the addon, yet felt the blinds were too restricting in Level 8, which where I went out. Tournament featured a max of 220 players (get there a bit early, you won't have a problem registering, but prepared to wait in about a 25-person deep line). The tourney I played in (September) had about 185 people in it. I took like 90th. Top 18 paid, $30K prize pool roughly.Of note, if you are going to play at the Trop tourney, get there even earlier if you do not yet have a Trop Poker Club card. This takes about 5 minutes to get, in a small office down the hallway from the main desk. You have to have one of these in order to register for a Trop tourney, but tourney entries do not count toward comps, as far as I know. Also, I don't doubt the incident Theresa mentioned occurred, but I will say that in all my travels there, I never have heard or seen of anything of that sort taking place. Hope this helps.Ed

Ed,I was there last weekend and I played in the saturday morning tourney. The buy-in was 200+20 (maybe 25). There were like 125 in it and the play was actually pretty weak considering. I got like 30 something, just a few spots out of the money. I got with an all-in when he hit runner runner for a boat when i flopped Ace high flush. I dont consider myself a great player, but I can hold my own. I was just surprised at how weak the tourney was. Don't get me wrong, there were some damn good players there, but there were alot of guys that should not of been playing in a 200 tourney. Anyways, this was my first time at the Trop and I had a great time. The dealers were nice, the service was good, the room wasn't smoky or stuffy, and clean to. I'd take it over the Taj from here on. I'm planning on heading back up there here in a few weeks. For my spring break I'm staying up there for around 5 days or so.

Ed,I didn't make it up. ( Why would you even say such a thing? Wierd.) My friend went with her husband and another friend of ours. My friend kept the cash in her purse. My friend was very embarrassed and upset about the situation. I have absolutely no reason to think she would lie to me.Now I will say, there is a good chance that she was not as cautious as she should have been. But what upset her the most was the casinos reaction. I know that I am not a big city gal, but I can tell you this... I have friends who work in the tourism industry in Central Florida and I have been told many times that certain establishments here also discourage guest from reporting crime. Every few years or so there is an expose on TV about some sort of cover up, be it hotel maids stealing or an incident at a theme park. Whenever you travel, I don't care where, you should be extra cautious. Some thieves are actually smart and know that tourist tend not to pay attention and tend to carry lots of money. Go figure! Atlantic City has never been known as a safe town... Am I wrong?

When I go down to Atlantic City, which is quite frequently, I keep my money in my wallet, just like I do when I go anywhere. The city itself is fairly down-trodden and desolate. The only people I pass walking around outside the casinos are homeless people and prostitutes. I'm not sure if you're suggesting using a fanny pack, but if you are, I would assume that this would be the worst way to be walking around trying not to look like a tourist. Keep an eye on your purse, or leave your money in your pocket and you should be okay.

Gosh! I am so sorry Ed. I must have been tired when I read that. I am so embarrassed. I really need to pay more attention when I read things. Sorry again.

i have been to the trop many times and never had any problem like that... How was it stolen?? -- was she physically robbed in a casino??but DON'T ever wear a money belt, even if it is "hidden" under your shirt bec its not hidden and screams "rob me, i am a tourist" also, casino security or the casino boss can not stop anyone from reporting anything to the local PD

God No!I money belt is very thin and you wear it underneath your clothes. No one should even know you have it; it is very concealed.

Just thought i would rejuvinate this thread. I love the trop poker room- it's not filthy like the taj nor ridiculously opulent like the borgata.. i mean, its extremely nice and all but its way too crowded and the trop has a more "real" feel to it.Anyway if you frequent the trop you will find me at the 1/2 NL table and in any tournament going on. my trop card says d-money. i'm down to play some cards then get some wings at hooters, lol.

I always played at the trop whenever I went down to AC, but my friends and I have found it to have tightened up a lot. We used to be able to go down and take a lot of money off the tables and felt like the action was really loose. Last few times, it's been a grind to get a profit. (not nearly as much as in the past). Can't tell if it's just been bad luck of getting bad table selection or what. Plan on getting down to Borgata really REALLY early next weekend we go donw.

Judging by the dates of the prior posts, I doubt anyone will see this. Going to the Trip in two weeks and I was curious to see if they allowed smoking in the poker room?

No, they don't. I don't think there's a smoking poker room in AC.

I have never been there but I think Bally's MIGHT. In a funny story my uncle was once kicked out of the Taj for blowing smoke in Phil Hellmuth's face before smoking was banned.... pretty hilarious, my uncle sucked out on Hellmuth and tilted him by smoking. Too bad he doesn't play those limits anymore!

Billy's Poker room on the 7th floor of Bally's allowed smoking while I was there about a month ago. No other room allows smoking.
