Since I am still learing the "limit game" process, I was mainly playing .25/.5 and breaking even I guess. But the last few days i have attempted .5/1 and am making a killing. Is that normal? I sit at a .25/.50 and it seems...hard. I can't get anywhere with it, but at the .5/1 I feel comfortable, I can play my game (tight/aggressive) and show a tremendous profit. Wonder what happens if I move to 1/2? I don't have the balls right now for that but I do wonder. :D

Too short of a time period to draw any conclusions. If you aren't able to beat .25/.50, then your win at .5/1 is just a lucky streak. However, you could also be on a bad .25/.50 run...Myriad possibilities...need thousands of hands to get a better idea of where you are. Many people falsely believe that they'll win more if they move up in limits.

My first week of poker online(awhile back), I made 170 bucks at .50/1.00. I was like this is way to easy. The following week i made 30 and i was very frustrated. I was like how can i have made 170 now only 30. So i decided hey i am going to try the 1/2. In one day, I lost 100 bucks. I was bummed. Emjoy the rush while it last. You will come back down. However, If you can afford to play at .50/1.00 stay there. I don't believe in the whole if you can't beat this limit then you can't move up.If i was a millionaire and a beginner i would hate to play at the .50/1 tables just to learn. play is wild. I would play at a 10/20 table. PLay what your budget can afford. If you can afford and handle the emotional swings at higher levels then play them. I can't handle the emotional swings personally. So I stick to .50/1 and 5 buck sit and go's. And my live games that are 25 buck NL.

Within a few days, there's only one thing that can happen which would tell you something definite about your skill in poker. Calling a bet with 72o. If you ever do that, you can immediately know you've got big problems. Otherwise, you just have to wait longer.

I have the bankroll for .50/1. Actually after last week I could handle 2/4. But for the last year I have been mainly a NL player and a few months ago ventured into the Limit owrld cause that is where the money is at. I couldn't do it at first. I will be the first to say I sucked ass. But after reading ToP, SS1 & 2, and SSHE, I am confident in my play. My problem was moving up in limits scared me for some reason. So when I moved up to .50/1 I was surprised at how much more comfortable I felt in my play and how the game was going. Maybe I thought it was going to be different. I don't know. Yes I know I need to play much more but I am not ready to claim "LUCKY" as the reason I was up for the week at the new level. I played 2 hrs of 1/2 last night and had an even better experience. But I will keep at it and am keeping detailed logs of each level to see where I am at. I don't play 72o, except in the BB when no raises were made. Maybe I portray some sense of stupididty, but I am not that stupid.

Sorry if you got the impression I was accusing you of playing 72o or being stupid. I meant that in general, for anyone, it's the only reliable short-term indicator of your playing skill. The post had nothing to do with you personally. Nor was my point to say you're getting lucky. You can't assume you were lucky or skilled with that amount of playing experience. Having read the books you've read, you've got every reason to think you can be a winning player. But you still have to wait for results to know for sure. If you're keeping detailed results and playing within your bankroll, you're doing the right thing.

I didn't take what you were saying personally, just joking with that comment.I was so scared of limit but now I am totally enjoying it. I do think it is ruining my NL tourney game though.

Good thing I don't have to figure out when people are joking when I play online. I'm not very good at it.

haha I used to be strictly a NL player too.... After 3-4 reload deposits of 25-35 dollars I just didnt understand, I could often hit it big and rake in $150 or $200 playing in a multi-table tourney, cash out some, and play with the rest and lose it... It didnt make sense, I will finish in the top 10-12% of a NL tourney 9 out of 10 times, but couldnt make steady income in a cash game... So I started playing limit, I wasnt fairing to well at .5/1 but very slowly made enough to hit 1-2 and from there I've been doing very well there, actually making more BB/Hour than .5/1.... I still play MTT's alot, and the cashes i have there are good to pay the rent with (whenever I cash big in a MTT I send almost all of it right back to my bank account... some say I should use that to play at higher limits, but im not beating the limit game enough to move up, so I use that for rent money, and the limit to help my bankroll grow) Needless to stay, I dont play NL as often, once in a while, but limit feels alot better for me. Hope it helps.

Well to give you an idea, here is my weeks stats playing $1/$2 at pokerroom. 5 person table.536 handsappox. 6hrs++ 146.75I had 2 losing sessions one for $1.50 (1hr 30 min playtime 138 hands) and another today for -$20.50( 28 minute playtime 43 hands)Other than that it's been nothing but gravy.2 hours seems to be the most I can sit and play. I have yet to get the stamina to pull a long shift. When I start to see my decisions going south I pull out and take a break and then get back on later.I know I need to put a lot more time and hands to see where I am exactly but I think this shows me that I should stick with it.Luckily I got my NL tourney game back as well by playing 2 MTT's and placing well. For a minute there I thought I lost it. :)Edit: I know how this place can be and I just want to say that I am not posting this for bragging rights or trying to pose as some stellar poker player. I am still new at this limit stuff and do not in anyway claim to be an expert. I use these forums to get help and advice from other players to better my game and help me make some decisions regarding my play and stuff. :D
