http://www.thepokerforum.com/omahahilosystem.htmi was wondering what the omaha8 players thought of this system.i havent played omaha8 much at all, and want to get a basic frameworkfor my preflop decisions.also, are there any preflop hand systems you would recommend over this one?

I really wouldn't recommend a system. They don't even value position in those systems. Plus those systems are terribly wrong when it comes to raising. I don't care if you have AA23 ds, you don't want to raise it in first position.

I've tried this for starting hand selection playing low stakes limit O8 and found it was helpful when starting out. As already mentioned, playing solely by this method is a recipe for disaster if you don't take into account table position. Probably another reason why it would work better for limit omaha.

I read about this system when I first started playing PLO8. I think it's useful in teaching you the basic values of starting hands. But long term, you won't be adding anything up every hand, you'll know what hands are playable in different spots.

After reading that, all I can say is what a mess. Kinda like taking the PLO 40 point rule and adding Pinochle meld bidding all into one.

I am a fairly new O8 player. I play limit exclusively, so I can't speak to PLO concerns. I have found this system VERY helpful. Point systems can be tweaked by the user to account for position, etc. because you might play a "24 point" hand differently based on position. The system doesn't do the thinking for the player, but it is a fair equivalent to limit hold 'em starting hand charts.

This system is much better suited for limit O/8 in my opinion. I don't strictly follow it...but my hand selection in limit O/8 usually falls in line with theirs.

maybe I'm a bad player, but I will no try to add that up when I look at my cards ever. I will howeverlook at (in this order) 1. how well my cards work together 2. how good are my cards to get the nut low. 3. position. did i forget something, oh yea, 4. how much is it going to cost me. 5. make a decision. Although I am more of a limit player, this approach has worked just fine for me.
