What about a 3bet preflop? Depends on the button of coarse. Are you calling on the turn because ace high might be good or you plan on raising the river?Either way I think raise/folding the turn is better becuase it makes you seem stronger, thus more fold equity.

I don't like the river raise that much.If you think i have a busted flush draw, you can just call because I would definately 3-bet AKs and AJs preflop. And don't say you're raising for value because I'll only call this raise with a small fraction of flush draws. And of course I'm not folding any paired hand on this river.

Aseem,I would have made it 3-bets preflop, folded the turn, and just called the river.Tim,Why did you just call pf out of the sb?

Tim and Screech:Aren't there some hands you just call with here in SB ?Or against a Button open, you figure isolating is almost always better?thanks!

In this situation, no.

Exactly.Button's range is pretty wide here. We want to isolate if we have a hand we feel is worth playing. If we just call, BB will almost always have the odds to call with anything remotely playable. We will be first to act out against 2 opponents, without the additional fold equity from 3-betting pf.If we call, we usually have to rely on hitting our hand to win. If we 3-bet, we can win when our opponent doesn't hit the flop, when we make the best hand, or when the board is too scary for our opponent to continue.

Since both players are competent I think we can play this hand alot differently than the normal advice given in the strat section.Might sound crazy but i think tim knows how much u love to lag it up sometimes Aseem so he check raise bluffed you on the flop.I'd raise/fold the river. He could be on a complete bluff, thinking (correctly) that u were betting with nothing on the flop.you all probably think i'm retarded, but it made sense in my head.
