I'm in a $100 NL game online (1 and 2 blinds) and catch a 7 :) 8 :D in the big blind. I check for a free flop with four players. Flop comes: J :) 9 :D 8 :club: , I check, player X checks, Player Y goes all-in for $24, Z folds, and I eventually call. Turn comes 8 :club: , River 7 :club: making me a full house. I was clearly going for my other obvious outs, but ended up with a damn good hand. I'm just wondering how others would have played this hand. For background, it was only my third or fourth hand at the table, so I had little to no info on these players. My thoughts were that he was probably sitting on AJ and didn't want people chasing a draw, but since he was all-in I couldn't get outplayed on the turn if I missed any of my 17 outs. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I think I would have played it the same. You are a favorite against him with anything he holds except two pair and trips. Against two pair its a coin flip and he's ahead with trips. It would be pretty hard to put him on trips, although two pair is definitely a possibility. What position did he limp from? That might make it a little easier to put him on a range of hands, but still, its not a bad call by any means.

Against AJ, you have 14 outs. You're a favorite to win this hand. You have .60-to-1 odds to hit by the river. He could have had a straight, though. And in that case you're a 1.6-to-1 dog...if you were getting the right odds, obviously a call is correct.

I would have half-pot bet the flop.
