Well, OK, let's try to break this down into a bunch of questions,

What are good starting hands for Razz?

It depends. In Razz you must pay attention to the cards that are dead. More so then in any other form of poker. Generally, you want 3 cards to an 7. You can get away with an 8 if its a smooth 8, something like A,3,8, if there are plenty of live cards. So, ask yourself what cards are live? That is almost as important as what is in your hand. You can play hands witha buried junker, (A,K)3 only if cards are super live, and the other two cards are excellent.

Also, seeing your cards out is good. If you have (A,4)7, seeing a bunch of A's and 4's out is good. Since that gives you less to pair your board with.

In razz you want to be leaning towards folding, you need to get cards that make you play the hand. Think super-tight.


How does your stategety change in short-handed play?

About the same as in other forms of poker. You can raise your standards a bit, play smooth 9s and rough 8s more. Also, buried junk hand (A,K)3 become much more playable. You might play a bit more aggressively, more 4th street raises...


What's the deal with 5th street?

Its make or break time.
You have to ask yourself if you either have the best hand, or are drawing to the best hand.
Then ask yourself, what does you opponent(s) have, and what are they drawing to.
Then ask yourself what do you oppent(s) think you have, or are drawing to.
Then remind yourself about all of the cards that are out and dead.
The count your outs, how many cards will make your hand or improve your hand.
Then count your opponents outs.

If you feel you are the best on 5th street, try to get as much money in the pot as you can.

If you do not have, or possibly will have the best hand, you must fold. Get out, you can only compound mistakes and make things worse.

It has been my expirence, that whoever has the best hand on 5th street, has the best hand on 7th street. There are exceptions, but most of the time that's true.



rasies and re-raisses early?

I generally don't do much re-raising early on. Razz is a drawing game, and I feel that re-rasing early commits money in a place it doesn't have to be. I don't want to be re-raising and catch running Kings.


when do you bluff?

About when you think you should, when you catch an A or 2 and your oppentent pairs, that's gennerally a good time for a raise. Whoever has the best board should be in control of the hand. When you get the best board because ofr a pair or a paint, don't be afraid to take control.


Deception?

This all depends on you opponent, if your playing the .25/.50 games on Full Tilt, you're not going to get a whole lot of value from decieving plays. If you're playing the 10/20 or 5/10 at a casino,, put yourself in your opponets shoes. What do they think you have? and act accordingly. How would you bet if you had (a,2)3 and caught a 7, 5? your opponent can't see your down cards, and your opponent should have a similiar 5th street philiosophy as you. It's not so much as what you have, it's what your opponent thinks you have.

Not quite the same, since flushes and straights don't count against you in razz.
