best way(s) to bring up a small br

Recommended Posts

Now with small br, I'm talking about less than 300 dollars, so I guess that's considered really small huh?Anyways, I'm sure some of you out there have grinded it out from this low but doing what though?.50/1 limit?Take Smash's theory and just sit at the 25 NL tables @ party poker? or do you just sng it if you're hitting the money more than 38% of the time? I haven't heard smash's thing talked about in sooo long lol

If you're good at limit play that.Good at sngs, blah blah blah.If you're really lazy, you can just multi-table using Smashs strat or ed millers shortstack strat. You don't even have to pay attention.

I'm sort of new at this, but I'll give this one a shot.I started with a very tiny br a few months ago (50 bucks or so)... first of all I used Smash's system for a bit and it was definately successful, but A) I didn't really feel like I was playing poker... I felt like I was working... just waiting for my paycheck. (I play poker for fun not just for $)B) Then I discovered SitnGos... they were okay... I advanced alittle from there.C) Now I sit comfortably at the .5/1 limit table. You can take any path you want, but if you read about poker alittle and play some different options I think you will find that it has the potential to be the most profitable.I think limit allows you to get your money in when you are ahead and also limits variance because you aren't ever placing A LOT of money on one hand that you can potentially lose... therefore the LONGRUN comes quicker.I hope that makes some sort of since. I still play SnGs though because I think they are fun and they help your tourney play alittle... but I think just standard grinding limit is more successful if you are a decent player. My dos centavos.

Right now I'm feeling the SnGs + smash's strat.I'd rather work for money now (boring Smash style) so I can play the 2,4 and 3,6 limits. Why? Because I've watched the numerous amount of donks play at Party Poker's jackpot table so I figure if I have the broll to sustain variance at 2/4+ and the jackpot is over 400k, why not just play there and hope to catch part of the jackpot? Partypoker is at like 500k right now, lotttttttta money :club:

what's ed millers shortstack strat?
Basically you buy in for about 20 x big blind. You then raise a fair amount before the flop (4-5xBB) with strong pf hands (high pp's, AK, etc.) You can also limp with suited aces and small pps if the price is right. On the flop, you decide whether or not to push the rest of your chips in. It basically reduces the game to two streets, so that you don't have to make tough decisions on later streets with large sums of money. It also cuts down on your opponents implied odds. And since you're only be playing strong pf hands, you naturally have an edge.
what's ed millers shortstack strat?  Mine performs better.  /shrug.
haha, always so quick to defend. Is this because you get paid off huge when you hit?

funny instance, just wanted to mention thisFew months ago I read about Smash's theory and decided to take into account what he saidHand #1 Pocket AcesI didn't really trust Smash so I thought I'd lure someone in w/a raise preflop, guy called and a J hits the board. I went all in, he calls w/jq. Turn is a Q. Time to rebuy!Hand #2 Pocket Aces again!Yep, back to back pocket aces, this time I thought it would be the right moment to just go all in hoping that someone would call thinking i was on tilt. Another guy calls w/pocket Js. J on the flop! 2 buy-ins gone like that D:

That's not a tiny bankroll. A tiny bankroll is $10-20.I've built my main bankroll from a $20 deposit. I got lucky in not busting while playing .05/.10 NL. Played there until I had a few hundred bucks. As for my second attempt with a micro-roll ($10), I've tried to be more careful by grinding it out at .05/.10 Limit 6-max. Up to $23 now.

.05/.10 nl? geez, how long did it take you to build up to a few hundred?

After having to pay off my credit card bills I'm rebuilding right now. If you are good at limit start at pokerstars or UB. they have .05-.10. Then when you build that up to about $60, go to paradise. there you can play .10-.20 and .25-.50. Only drawback about paradise is you can only 3 table so building the roll is a little more tedious.

Since you have $300, you don't really have the proper BR for $25 NL. However, it's probably the best way. What you can do is play a hybrid of the Miller/Smash strat. Buy in for $6 or so. Play like Miller reccomends. When you're over $10 play smash style. If you fall back down to $6 or lower, then you go back to Miller's strat.I know Miller says 20 BB, but I like a little more since the odds are you'll pay the blinds a few times before you pick up a hand, and if not you have more chips.
