I'm just starting to look at colleges and i know that there are a lot of young guys and girls here who probably play poker at college. What's the poker scene like at your school? What are some good campuses for poker? Are there B&M poker rooms near by, or can you normally find a home game/home tourney?Obviously I won't base my decision on what the poker is like, but it might be a good thing to know or have in the back of my mind. THANKS

if you live in any type of dorm with multiple floors there will be a game going everynight, and i'm not kidding. every single night.i am a senior in college now at Minnesota St now but i wish the "poker boom" would have hit about 3 years ago when i was living in the dorms so i could have played more live games. now i live off campus and it is kind of a pain in the @$$ to get a live game going but for you, just imagine someone knockin on your dorm room door saying "Hold Em Game in the Lounge at 9pm if you want in." you KNOW there will be willing people there, and it's so conveinant with so many people in one areai would imagine any college would be like this, i dont think there are colleges that play more poker than others. obviousley bigger schools, more people, more games, etc but i certainly would not pick a school based on playing poker!!

There have been a lot of stories about the scene at Duke lately, just do a google. Evidently, not only are there a lot of games, but it seems to be accepted by the public in general. You may find some schools that come with authority figures who don't want poker played on or near their campuses (Illinois is clamping down on it). Purdue University has a decent scene, from what I've seen. I know a lot of the frats play constantly (I don't go to frats though). There's a bar here that holds freerolls tues. wed. and thurs. I just go there to get a game, but from what I understand, the Tuesday and Wednesday games are for points to go to Indy and play in a satellite, and Thursdays you qualify for a tournament on like... the 1st Sat. of each month which has some cash prize. I don't know. I work on Saturdays. haha. That, and if you live near here, I can get a home game going. There are riverboat casinos a couple to a few hours from here if you wanna make a weekend of it. I haven't done that, so I can't comment on Harrah's Indiana or anything... yet.

It's pretty easy to find a game at UNC. We don't play for high stakes here, just a $10 buy-in tournament, but more and more people are interested in playing. I've held tournaments with 30 entrants, and we had to turn some people away because we ran out of room. You can always go to dook to take the rich kids' money, but remember, if you go to dook you go to hell.

HAHA awesome. I agree -- except, wouldn't it be ok to go to Duke purely to take everyone's money? I mean, as long as you are self-loathsome the entire time, of course.

You also might run a search for poker groups in your locale at MeetUp.com.

You also get a free IPod at Duke so you won't have to listen to them while you're playing. And the 76ers play their preseason there I believe, so you can catch a game or two as well.

"free iPod" --- A.K.A. included in your tuition even though we don't tell you that. Don't fool yourself, it's always always included in your tuition.Think it's possible to sell a stake in your tuition on eBay and promise you'll pay each person 1% of your starting salary when you're out of school? Elon University is near me and on any given night there are 15 games there. Mostly cheap cash games. Everyone plays every hand to the river so its not alot of skill. I played one night in a 4/8 dollar game and they then learned to fold. Dont get in a .50/1.00 game you will not win much due to river rats that will lose in the long run but they will bust your kings or aces every time. Remember Mommy and Daddy are paying for it.Herb

i live in the dorms here in vegas at UNLV and there are definitly places to play every night of the week. No only is the college a short walk from strip but there is a game going in the dorms every night of the week. I love being here because i can play anytime i want whether it be in a friends room or down the strip.

Oh, it's fine to take their money if you just pop in, like if you went to Carolina and dropped by for a game, but if you attend dook as a student, that's where the going to hell part comes in. I have no problem with emptying their pockets.

Since you're just about to attend college I'm assuming you're just about 17-18. Seems to me the only place that you can play legally are Indian gaming casinos. Which is why UCSB is a great place to go to school. You can find a game any night since all the college kids live in one small town next to campus. There is also a nice poker room at Chumash which is an 18 over casino. LA is less than two hours away where you can go to any number of the card houses including the BIKE and my fav., Commerce. Also, Vegas is only 6-8 hours away from santa barbara.

I got some buddies that go to UM (Minnesota) and the gambling scene up there is tight....the legal gambling age in MN is 18...they said there is a small casino (no poker tables) and a legal cardroom about a block away from there by some horse tracks (another gambling habit) where they go to fill their poker needs...guess we'll find out if it is cool or not cuz I'm goin up there to chill (drink, gamble, party) this weekendPeace :D

yeah, U of M (university of minnesota) is right by a horse track (canterbury) that has a card club attached to it. right now it's only limit, but hopefully they will expand into NL soon. many other casinos within a few hours from U of M have cardrooms too

That would be nice. When I roomed up at UH (University of Houston) we had home games all over the place. It was either dominos or cards. You'll find games wherever you go I assume, but once by a cardroom would be awesome.BTW, I know someone's thinking this. I roomed at UH because EE (elictrical engineer) majors are encouraged to live on campus.
