I was closing in on the cutoff point of a $100 mtt and was in 14th position with $11k. The cutoff was 27th place. A player in middle position raised 1800 I was in the bb w KK and smooth called. An Ace came on the flop and I checked the raiser bet 18oo and I raised to 3600 to which he went all in, which would have put me all in since we started with about the same amount. I mucked and was down to about 4000 with 300-600 blinds. I put him on AK since he didn't hesitate to go all in and my question is do you think this was right. If he did have AK I believe not setting him all in preflop was a good move because he most likley calls and I am out there. I ended up finishing one out of the money. Gross.

I don't like smooth calling before the flop. But since you did, the check raise told you that you were beat. I say good lay down...dumb play post flop.

another option could have been to re-raise pre-flop, 2.5x his 1800 to 4500.

I just set him in preflop. He could have any ace and is liable to fold preflop.

Might as well push rather than commit over 40% of your stack. Then I hope he doesn't have AA (obviously, but oh well, it does happen), and also hope he calls with any other hand.

I wouldn't ever smooth call preflop with KK, because Ace-rag suited limpers may catch top pair on the flop and bust your cowboys. Raise and if they re-raise, push all in. KK vs AK would give you about 4:3 favorite, and if an ace happens to land on the flop, you have no regrets.

Definently need to raise preflop. you cant slowplay kk at a full table. but if you do decide to slowplay and an A pops up. you need to lead out and bet rather than reraise. this way you can see if your opponent has an A without commiting the extra chips from the reraise
