Well, lets see. I was a losing player when i was single. Then, i met someone, and we've been together for about 9 months. I'm still a losing player, but now when she asks me how i did in poker i have to tell her how much i lost. At this point she begins to berate me for my poor play and tells me to quit playing. Immediately upon hearing this, i challenge her to fisticuffs, and we procede to fight until the police get a domestic disturbance call from our neighbors. All in all, a relationship is -EV. Just my thoughts, but i imagine a lot of other people are experiencing the same things.

I play when my girlfriend goes to bed (unless sex has just been had, in which case I usually fall right asleep). My key to not burning out with online poker is that I never say no to an invitation because I am going to be playing. If my girlfriend wants to go out, I go. If my friends are going to a bar, I go. This way I get to look forward to playing and don't feel like a lump when I'm sitting in front of the computer, because those are the hours I would just be sitting in front of the tv anyways.

I am single, it makes for a real interesting scene at the Casinos. It's really fun to hit on other guys girlfriends who are in town for the weekend etc. A lot of times a guy will sit down w/ his girlfriend and I will decide to put the guy on tilt by hitting on his girlfriend.Would you believe it's worked everytime? It's awesome.. And a lot of fun, the girl see's his insecurity and he looks like a punk for it. It caps it off when I beat him in a pot.. but I never go after this person, they just gun for me!Being single is +EV for poker, I had one girlfriend who understood poker and that was real fun, unfortunately I broke up w/ her while I was in Hawaii.. I mean I didn't want to cheat on her so I called her up, broke up, and then got on the girl in the hot tub...

i have a fiancee. it doesnt really effect my play. sometimes she distracts me when she says stuff like "we have been engaged for six years, when are you going to marry me you dead beat?" and "stop playing poker for a minute and pay attention to your children, they miss their daddy". thats just sweet talk though and it doesnt really do anything to my game.

We hooked back up for a few months but never officially got back together.. It worked out perfectly. Oh, while playing at the table with her I NEVER played soft against her.So her and I ended our thing, I was fiendin on her friend who was much more my type.. so that happened and she hooked up with my friend at the poker table. So she begins going out w/ him and he softplays her at the table "so she can win" Well as smart as he thought this was, it was the stupidest thing he could do. He was now her pawn, trying to please her for no reason... Basically the best thing I learned from this is that she still wanted me and wasn't respecting him for one reason.. he softplayed her at the table while I continued to beat her in every pot I could. Her and I remain good friends and hook up occasionally when I am back in town, her Father wants me to marry her lol.

Best show ever.I taught my ex how to play thinking it was a great way for us to bond. Then she really got into it and wanted to play all the time when i wanted to. Doh!Now she's killing the local 5-15o spread limit game...and i get nothing from it.

My friend's coworker saw a picture of me from some wedding photos and was very "interested." She convinced me to go out on a date with him.He was cute, semi-intelligent,sounded responsible, etc...we were having a pretty good date until the subject of what we enjoy in our spare time. As soon as said the word "poker" the fun was over...instant conversation killer. My friend called me a few days later to break it to me gently that he liked everything about me, but couldn't date someone with "a gambling problem."Funny thing is...he didn't even bother finding out if I was good or not, that I was studying a lot, that I was building a bankroll, etc....Assured my friend I was going to get over it. That I wouldn't want to be with anyone that judgemental about something, without first gathering all the facts.I've run into this with a two guys now...but I'm guessing that it's a lot tougher on the single male players that are meeting new dates.

Funny thing is I can understand it a lot easier if the genders were reversed. I can totally see an uninformed GIRL flipping out about hearing about poker... but for a GUY...That dude's wrapped up way too tight for living. I'm sure you're not missing out on anything.
Always bet like you've got a pair.

I've found when I have a significant other I begin to play like absolute arse. I have no idea why this is. The last two live tournaments I have played in my girlfriend was there dealing. Played badly in both of them. She wasn't dealing at my table; so it wasnt like I was trying to impress. I cant explain it at all

I got married in April and my poker playing time has significantly decreased. It will probably continue to do so when my baby is born next month. I dont let poker get in the way of my relationship because it easily could. My wife sees this and appreciates it.

This has to be +EV for you. He's dumping to her, and then you take her chips....nice.
