good book for stud

Recommended Posts

For beginners, I would suggest "Winning 7-Card Stud: Transforming Home Poker Chumps Into Casino Killers" by Ashley Adams, because it provides a lot of the basic need-to-know information, such as good, solid starting hand requirements, but it also talks about some more advanced, decepitve plays (check-raising, slowplaying, bluffing, buying a free card, semi-bluffing, etc..). So basically, it is pretty good all-around. Also, the stud section in Super System One is pretty good, but probably only really useful for higher limits

The chip reese stud section in SS is awesome. My personal favorite is Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players by Sklanksy, Malmuth, and Zee. Excellent book. For stud 8/b, consult Todd Brunson's chapter in SS2. It is the best ever written on the subject.

I have heard that the stud book by Sklansky (the one previously mentioned) is excellent, but that it is really designed more for higher limits such as 10/20. If that is true, you might not want to read it if you are a beginner, as it is probably a lot different than the beginners strategy you will need to win money at lower limits. And trust me, you will make money at low limits if you stick to a solid starting hands and only play tight-aggressive.
