if an opponent has a full house, he can't have a low. if he has a low, he can't have a full house.this is such a simple tip that so many people forget.for example, if your hand is something like 10-9-8-7-6-4-3 (suits irrelevant) and you're heads-up against something like x-x-3-7-7-K-x, you should be capping fearlessly. you are on a freeroll; it is impossible for you to not win at least half the pot.i was saved a great deal of money in a hand i played at a casino, where i had (A)-(A)-5-5-6-4-(K) against x-x-8-6-2-Q-x, my opponent bet out, i raised feeling that my opponent might have missed the low and rivered a worse two pair, and my opponent just called.my opponent's hole cards were 9-7-5 for the rivered straight and 8-7-6-5-2 low. he just called thinking he was beat for the low or beat for the high by a boat. thank you fish!aseem

I don't think his play on the end was all that fishy (although his play up til then was pretty bad, unless it was checked the whole way). Let's switch roles here. If you had an 8-7 for the low and got raised on the end by someone with x-x-5-5-6-4-x, would you really think you were going to scoop? What would they be raising with? They might not have a boat, but might have a low straight (which kills your low) or flush.I know this for a fact because I've been the one with the "can't scoop" hand. I had a board of x-x-3-4-4-7-x. My hand actually ended up being (5 2 ) 3 4 4 7 (Q ). The other guy had a straight with an 8 low (don't remember the exact order, but he had 10-9-8-7-6-3-A). He hit the straight on 6th street when I hit my low and we capped the final two betting rounds (there was also one other player caught in the middle that didn't show his hand).And ya never know, the player you're talking about may post the same hand on here talking about the fish that raised him on the end with two pair and no low. LOL!

nosoul,looking at my board of 5-5-6-4 and him having a 9-high straight with a bad low, it is impossible for me to scoop.think about that. his lack of reraising was *extremely* bad and it's really not that close.it is utterly impossible for a board of 5-5-6-4 to beat a 9-high straight and a low, in *both* directions.aseemp.s. my raise wasn't bad, but no big deal. i didn't give the rest of the action, and i think the raise is good in the long run in relation to his poor play.

Your raise was awesome, for many many reasons. I especially like what it will do for future play against that opponent and any other observant players at that table... 8)
