simple 7-stud hi/lo question

hello - just wondering what the ante/blind structure is typical for 7-card stud (i assume it is the same for hi/lo, if not, the latter is what i'm interested in).at the lowest limits online, the ante is $0.25 with rounds of $0.5/1, this seems to be quite high. if in fact it is, how should this affect my play? should i be playing more aggressively, more hands, both? i don't mean for that to be a loaded question, but i never play games with antes, so just wondering if this intuitive strategy is correct for games with high antes.thanks

You must be playing on Party. Party Poker is not a good place for Stud Hi/lo.On Stars, a $.50/$1.00 game has an ante of $.05. Much more reasonable.

Yep. High antes force you to mix it up and play more hands, which is not a great idea in stud h/l...don't bother with antes like that.As mentioned above, PSTARS has a good ante structure, as does all the Prima sites...which can be quite fishy. Play the low antes and play to scoop.GL.

A good place to learn to play is on the .5/1 on Paradise Poker. No ante. Can't beat that.Typically, the ante is 1/10 the bring in. The higher antes are action games and the variance goes through the roof. You can still do ok playing tight, but waiting for the good hands gets expensive. And when you get outdrawn, it just sucks that much more.I read an article somwhere that suggested you actually want to play tighter with higher antes. He had some weird math to back up the claim. The basic idea is that you get paid off so much better for your strong hands that you don't need to chase. The bottom line, though, is that your bankroll will have some pretty nasty swings with the higher ante. Either you loosen up and chase more, which will cause you to throw away chips here and there, or you tighten up and throw away the antes.

I basically learned the game on paradise, where there was no ante.From there, absolute has a nice low ante structure. Plus, many bad players. 8)
