Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converterPreflop: Hero is MP3 with [Tc], [Ah]. 4 folds, Hero calls.Flop: (6.50 SB) [2h], [Kc], [Th] (4 players)BB bets, BB calls.Turn: (5.25 BB) [Jh] (4 players)BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.River: (11.25 BB) [Kd] (4 players)BB checks, Hero checks.Final Pot: 11.25 BBMy thoughts: the 3betting bought me a free showdown, and since i'd probably feel obligated to show it down by the river after having called that much even if i _didn't_ improve, it leaves my in a situation where i can make $2 more when i improve, or win/lose the same amount when i don't improve. I have a fairly substantial number of cards that can improve my hand, many to the nuts. There is even the slight chance that i am ahead, even if it is unlikely.Would anyone else use the same line, or should i have just called the raise?

I don't like 3-betting for a free showdown because you shouldn't be calling a river bet with this hand UI. Just call.

why not check behind on the turn? Then call some rivers UI or raise if improved. Here you raise the flop... and get a free card..but instead end up putting 3 bets in.

I was planning on checking behind if i didnt improve on the turn, but that turn _did_ improve me. Inside straight draw and a nut flush draw. It adds 12 cards, along with the 10 outs and possible ace outs. I dont think betting when checked to on the turn is _terrible_, and i definitely don't think the flop raise was bad. I was raising quite a few hands and I don't think his 3bet range is as narrow as some have suggested. His range may include mid pocket pairs, AQ, AJ and some others. I get huge value on my bets against worse hands, and lose comparably less in hands where im behind, because im not behind by nearly as much. The raise isn't necessarily for a free turn. It's for value quite often too. When i was checkraised on the turn, im given reason to believe that im almost certainly behind, but im still fairly strong against a large variety of hands he may check raise with. The 3bet is kind of sketchy and i regret having done it. By itself, i dont think it was incredibly costly. I agree that showing down the hand at the river UI is bad, but it does have _some_ value. Well, i already explained why i bet out on the turn. By 3betting instead of calling the raise..., i only lose partial value on the big bet. It costs me .6BB of expected value instead of 1 full one. I also gain value in situations where i make one of my draws.
