nlhe tournament question

Playing in a multi table NLHE tournament. Blinds are at 4,000 - 8,000 and increasing rapidly. I have 12,000 remaing after posting the big blind. 5 players remaining in the big blind I checked with Q 6 against 1 limper who is the chip leader by far and has been playing almost every hand. So it's heads up with a flop of J 6 2 . The player to my left has 12,000 remaing in chips and will be in the big blind on the next hand. 5th place pays $155 4th pays $240 Just checking to see if I played it the way most others would. I'll post the results later.Thanks for the help

Hey amigo, post in strategy/tournament, you'll get less signal-to-noise, and there are quite brilliant analysts that post regularly in strategy.

If you are playing to win, then that flop was pretty good. You have the 3rd flush draw along with middle pair. The chip leader should call you with almost anything but you're probably ahead and you have a decent draw if you're not.Even if you're playing for 4th, you are only tied with the other low stack. Anything could happen when he enters the BB and you're not guaranteed 4th place money if you fold here.I would go all-in.

Your neighbor to the left has about a 1/3 chance of surviving and passing the blind problem back to you, at which point you have a 1/3 chance of surviving, so youre about a 3/1 favorite to move into 4th if you fold.With this hand your 6s are probably ahead 85% of the time, and have better draws on top of it, unless limper has the Ac or Kc..about a 10% chance there, so you are about a 3/1 favorite to win this hand. Since y0u end up with a lot more chips and a chance for 3rd by playing, and the chances of 4th about even, this seems like a push to me.

It would be interesting to know what the other places payed, and what the other players had for chips, so we could figure out what your chances of finishing 3th or higher will be worth. But even without that information i'd say it's worth going all in, you have a pair and a flush draw, and your loose opponant will have neither most of the time. So i'll go with the croud here and vote for an all in.

1st payed about 1,0502nd @ 6253rd @400I did push it in thinking middle pair was likely good heads up with a loose player and if not then I probably had outs. But that wasn't the case! He called and turned over A J so I was drawing to 2 outs and was drawing dead when a hit the turn. I never really thought about check/folding to try to move up. I really thought that if I doubled up I would have had a good chance to make heads up and have a chance to win the whole thing.Thanks.

I don't see why you would. I think this is somewhat results-oriented thinking here. This really is an easy push.

I completely agree, bad result, but the correct decision. You aren't going to find much better places to get you money in before you are blinded out. And if you do double and you happen to get big pocket cards next hand, well then you have a chance to double up a much bigger number next time. All in!!
