Do you talk at the table or are you a very strict emotionless player? Personally I'm very talkative, especially if I'm in Vegas or something like that when theres so many interesting people to talk to. If it's a home game with my friends we'll chat about the Sox or stuff like that, but I am less talkative than normal. I think overall I'm pretty outgoing so I love meeting new people. A lot of the time you can start up some poker talk at the table too and figure out some strategy of theirs. No lie after 5 or 10 minutes of talking to some people you can ask "Why did you do that? You had blah blah hand" and they'll come right out and say something like "I only raise preflop if I'm holding at least a K." Of course they could be lying trying to throw your game off, but it's worth the chance. Also I noticed that if you are nice to people at the table they'll feel some connection to you, tend to believe your bluffs more often and most importantly not try to play directly against you, compared to if your some guy sitting in the 8 seat with shades on and a grim looking face a lot of people gun for you. Of course this is just all IMO and some games call for other actions, but I was speaking in general.

I agree with everything you just said there man. Some people get all serious and shit, not wanting to talk at all. Look at all the top poker players out there. They all have thier own table personalites. People that tell you talking has no place in poker are normaly losing.Sometimes i even go into the low stakes play money tables and I'll give news guys tips on strats and stuff. I like helping people out. The more better players out there, the better.

I like to talk, particularly in Vegas. If there is a good group of people it's always more fun. I have to remember why I'm at the table though, and that's to win pots. So I don't get caught up.I do agree that you feel a certain bond with people at the table though, and it's a really cool feeling. You can tell which people love poker as much as you do and those that are just there for fun.I have been at tables where nobody talks at all too, and they don't bother me really as I usually spend alot of time just watching and looking for tidbits of information. So really to me I have no preference. I like to have fun when it's social and I like to be super observant when it's quiet. If I could mix the both of them I would, but it's usually an either or.In home games it's more or less gab city man. Talking about everything from women to sports to the song on the radio.

I like to talk. Especially if its my home game with the same 8-10 guys. We ham it up and talk and criticize and everything. Normally the losers convince those in the money to buy breakfast when we are done. It's an enjoyable time and everyone talks. Whenever I play in a bigger tournament with a lot of people I don't know I'm more quiet. However, I will talk whenever people get out of their initial shell. I'm not a trash talker or belittler like an Arieh or Matusow, but I talk and find other ways to get into people's heads.

If I had Evelyn NG or Annie Duke at the table, I'd be talking about how they need to give me their numbers....yeah right, no body would want to take my chips from me because they'd be covered in drool....*insert homer donut drool*

I would love to hear a conversation between you tripping over your words and lane flack....well tripping all over his words, that'd be worth the price of admission right there. Speaking of entertaining table talk I would LOVE to see a WPT Special Episode of Mouths: (some are trash talkers and some well just like to talk).1. Phil Hellmuth (who's the first person that comes to mind, really.)2. Tony G (anybody that can get emotion out of The Professor is more man than me)3. Phil Gordon (www.tiltboys.com, 'nuf said) 4. Daniel Negreanu5. Annie Duke 6. Josh Arieh (The biggest mouth of WSOP 04)7. Scotty Nguyen (make him cut his mullet)8. Men The Master Nguyen (Supply him with many coronas)9. Mike "the mouth" Matusow (well after he gets out of prison)With special guest commentators...

I love to talk to people that are at the tables having fun (which is what most people are doing at the place I play at, just there having fun), I've had some funny times with people at the poker tables. But if there is no one there that wants to talk then I'm fine being quiet while I play. I usually bring an mp3 player with me just incase theres no one that wants to talk, then I'll listen to that while I play

Table talk can be extremely effective.. for throwing other people off there games... One thing I will always do if make friends with the big-stack at the table, even if its online. Because to be quite honest, if they like you they are less likely to check-raise, push you all-in, call a large raise etc... Its a small edge, but in poker, it can make a difference. I also enjoy conversation, just never get to the point where you aren't paying attention to people.

I talk a lot away from the table so naturally I talk a lot at the table. Most people I know will spark up conversations at the table. The only people who never seem to talk are either people who are uncomfortable around people they don't know or they are people who think they are professional poker players and try to act like they are constantly ultra serious. You have to show respect at times though. Like if you're out of a hand and people are still contemplating there moves you should probably zip it.

Defintely show respect... one of my biggest pet peeves is the jerk at the table that just rambles on while the biggest pot of the night is being played! Jeezus, I just can't stand that type of stuff! Oh well, people will be people right?

I tend to talk> I do remember asking a very strong player and silent ( at the table) guy as to why .... His answer was " I learn more by listening than I do by talking!"

hah I love talking to all of the weaker players, and getting to be friends with them at the table. I can't tell you how many times I've been ahead on the flop but then they catch their straight or flush on the turn, and when I ask them if they caught it theyll tell me yes, just because they feel like theyre my friend and they dont want to take any more money from me.

yes i talk not all the time just enough so i am not silent the whole game, but talking and asking certian questions will help any game.. everyone gives some kind of a clue away when they speak not even knowing they did.. so i talk not a whole bunch cause i wanna keep my mind clear and on the game but enough to help me... and joke inbetween hands also..

I talk constantly at the table for two reasons. One, I want to keep people happy smiling and social as they are losing their $. If a fish is there having a good itme, it doesnt matter that he just dropped a few c notes and is reaching in his wallet for more. Always keep the fish happy. As others have mentioned it is also a great way to get information on other players. But the 2nd main reason I talk is this reason, I communicate information to my friend at the table. I particularly use this to tell my friend the hand I have. Not to run up the pot cause I think that is shady(not what I am doing is ethical), but rather to get him out of the pot. I am there to take the fishs $ not my friends. It is actually quite simple to communicate this information if you keep the conversation restricted to a particualr sport and therefor the use of certain players or positions can be code for your hand.

So running up a pot is shady? But you and your friend telling each other your hands isn't shady? I disagree man. I would never sit at a table with someone like you.
