I'm interning in DC for a Senator on the Judiciary Committee...and all I can say is that we're going to have a rather busy session. My first reaction to the news: fuck.

don't know about that as Taft, Brandeis, and Marshall come to mind long before Rehnquist

Agreed. As well as a few others.I didn't hate Rehnquist, though I'm gonna hate whomever is appointed to replce him as an associate justice.Who is first in line for the chief justiceship now??Ice

to an extent I agree, but it will be very hard for bush to push through a justice as conservative as Scalia or Thomas in the current climate. Needless to say, I'm not banking on a 9th district judge being sworn in, but if bush has any clue(and this is a big if) then he'd appoint a center left justice to go along with roberts

my first guess would be stevens, but he is also very old himself, god help us if Scalia becomes it

I hope so, but if the Repubican party really wanted to make a stand and support a well qualified justice who leans pretty far to the right, they could. I'm not optimistic. Icepessimistic

very true. of course any justice will be a wild card, as when Nixon appointed Blackmun he got the opposite of what he expected, cause Blackmun was one of the key figures to getting RoevWade pushed through

Sorry about his families loss. But Bush is going to F_up Kennedy, Boxer, Dean and the rest of the ass hat Democratic Party. This is a great time for Republicans. Looks Like I will get to keep my guns and more of my paycheck for quite some time.

Everytime there's a tax cut, where do you think that money comes from? Federal funding. Funding for what?EducationPublic Services (Police, Paramedics, Fire)Help for the poorEducation is underfunded as it is - the more tax cuts we have, the less intelligent the nation's children will be.

Please show me one study that has a direct link to funding = better grades. Just one please. Pouring money into education doesn't improve grades.
