I was playing party Poker .50/1.00. I called a raise 1.00 with my pocket 44. I usually only call small pocket pair raise if 5 people are in the hand and in late position. If i am the only person in the hand i will raise. and in late position. Anyhowthe flop came nothing good for me. The original raiser bet and i folded , the turn unfortunately came a 4 and i missed out on having a full house,by the river. 4 full of kings where as the original better had Ak for trips. I think i did the smart thing and lay down if nothing hits promising. But i am curious, how far would you guys go. would you say heck i will call and see the turn. i am already in for 1.00 whats .50 cents? Just curious
laying down small pocket pairs?

No i would have definately layed it down, you are probably a huge underdog and can only get a four, which would leave you with two outs. I usually only play them from late position by either limping or calling a small raise.

You seem to know what you're talking about. Playing them in late position with quite a few in the hand etc... You made the right move here... calling the pre-flop raise... is thats what i understood, well if 5 called it infront of you I'd be very weary that 1 or 2 others have pocket pairs and even if you hit your 4's... your down and out. Ussually in a situation like that I'll fold 7's or lower, it all depends on the table though really.

what were the amount of bets in the pot, because if there were at least 14 by the time it got to you, you could logically make the call with implied odds that you'd be able to capture at least eight big bets by the turn and river for your one small bet that you put in on the flop

I don't remember the hand quite that much anymore. I guess i was asking cause, sometimes i think i prematurely fold my hands. I usually play more sit and go's and have a very consistent strategy thast seems to work. Yet cash games i feel sometimes i fold prematurely, perhaps in fear of just blowing away money on draws. I guess i made the right move cause chasing a set is really not a money making draw, where as an ace high flush draw can be very profitable. Do any of you know, a good book, on stricly cash games Nl limit and limit ?I find most the writers and books i read deal mostly with tournament and sit and go strategies?
