Totaly from scratch, how would you do it? I know it will be a long process, but what do you guys think the best path would be. Also if anyone knows any sites with basic holdem strategy that would be easy to print off for them to read (i.e hand rankings, strong hands, etc.) Im thinking about trying to teach the game to a person who has no bad habbits or favorite hands already, so im thiking this is possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before SSHE, I'd have them read Miller's other book. I forget what its called, but it's that intro to Hold 'Em book. You need some basic knowledge before SSHE. Otherwise I pretty much agree with JayWeb.
The recent legislative history of internet gambling legislation reinforces the Court's determination that internet gambling on a game of chance is not prohibited conduct under 18 U.S.C. § 1084. So you can SIIHP.

Thanks for the reply. The person im talking about is my mom, who i semi live with anyway. I live with my GF but i am usually home at least once a day for something. So im thinking the time im there i can help her. Im wanting to start her an online account for play money and let her play one sit and go tourney on her own to see if she picks up on blinds and antes, importance of good cards, position, all that good stuff. After about a month i think i will then open her a real account to play micro no limit on to watch over as she plays and maybe talk her through a few hands to help out. Im more than likely not wanting to teach her limit, because around here our B&M is mostly no limit tourneys and cash. With the exception of a couple nights of 3-10 spread limit.

You can check the library. I found a few books there to get started. Then if you find somehthing you really like and want to read over -- buy it.You can also check out: www.learn-texas-holdem.comThey have some pretty basic stuff dealing with 'Playable Starting Hand' etc.

Play money online is not really poker ... not a good starting/training ground. Have her read Lee Jones "Winning Low-Limit Hold-em" ... that's how I got started.[/quote]

If you reread what I wrote you'll see that I didn't say playing online wasn't really poker ... I said playing for "play money" online is not really poker. People who tend to play on the play money sites don't play as seriously as those who do have some financial stake in their play even if it is micro-stakes. If the bets mean nothing but some imaginary number people don't take it seriously and that's not really poker, that's just a crapshoot.

Oh, Good Point, I crushed playmoney at a rate ot 1000 bb/100, I went over to real money and could never get the same rate... hmph.

Believe it or not, phil gordon's book is an excellent starter book it's light reading and I'd recommend that before SSHE to the total beginner.

Well since in real life she will be playing 3-4 at the most table tourneys. I thought i woul dlet her start at like the 27 person 50k buyin play money on stars, since i have a shit load of play money from back in the day and i played one not to long ago when i was bored and tilting a bit and it seemed decently solid for a play money tourney.
