Hello,Firstly i would like to say "Hello" - This is my first post in this forum and hopefully will be the first of many.I started playing poker in late ocotber (2004). Since then i have lost around $150, which is alot to me
I have read the Hold'em section of Doyle Brunson's Super System and 2 other rubbish books, my goal is to be the best that i can be.I just don't know if i am really bad or really unlucky. In the last 2 weeks i turned $50 into $124 and then had a losing streak which took me down o $5.90 - I turned that into $69.95 and now (2 days later) i am at $26 Here is the hand history for a tournament that i played, i thought i played it well and i came 3rd ( i had a serious bad beat - full house lost to a straight flush on the river) - please help me see if i played bad or was just unlucky - Could i improve?Thank you for your time, Best regards,James[size=10]Bad beat below!*********** # 5 **************PokerStars Game #1104992192: Tournament #4737159, Hold'em Limit - Level IX (600/1200) - 2005/01/20 - 22:20:53 (ET) Table '4737159 2' Seat #4 is the button Seat 2: Hardnut (8925 in chips) Seat 4: Luv2Winn (14839 in chips) Seat 7: jillyjill (12236 in chips) jillyjill: posts small blind 300Hardnut: posts big blind 600*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to Hardnut [Ad Qd]Luv2Winn: folds Zmansilk [observer] said, "lol"jillyjill: raises 600 to 1200Hardnut: raises 600 to 1800jillyjill: calls 600*** FLOP *** [Qs Jh Jd]Mr. DRS [observer] said, "tomorrw lol i am going to bed"jillyjill: checks Hardnut: checks *** TURN *** [Qs Jh Jd] [Qh]jillyjill: checks Zmansilk [observer] said, "im in now"Hardnut: bets 1200jillyjill: calls 1200*** RIVER *** [Qs Jh Jd Qh] [Th]jillyjill: bets 1200Hardnut: raises 1200 to 2400jillyjill: raises 1200 to 3600Hardnut: raises 1200 to 4800Betting is cappedjillyjill said, "ur gonna hate this"jillyjill: calls 1200*** SHOW DOWN ***Hardnut: shows [Ad Qd] (a full house, Queens full of Jacks)jillyjill: shows [8h 9h] (a straight flush, Eight to Queen) jillyjill collected 15600 from pot*** SUMMARY ***Total pot 15600 | Rake 0 Board [Qs Jh Jd Qh Th]Seat 2: Hardnut (big blind) showed [Ad Qd] and lost with a full house, Queens full of Jacks Seat 4: Luv2Winn (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 7: jillyjill (small blind) showed [8h 9h] and won (15600) with a straight flush, Eight to QueenEDITED! - as it was way to long before! :?

Update: Just lost a $22 SnG - They were very aggressive and i didn't get many good hands to play, i came 6th. But then i won 2 $5.50 SnG which brings me back to $43.XXI will not play a $20+ Sit and go a for a long time, i didn't feel comfortable, 5 and 10's i am ok with.

You should post a smaller hand history next time...I doubt you'll get many responses. As to the specific hand...I would have led the flop (even with two jacks out there) most likely it would have ended there.I saw some of your earlier hands and it seemed like you were playing a few marginal hands for raises when you should have folded. This was a limit tourney so, I dunno, but maybe tighten up some...can't really say cuz i did'nt look at all the hand histories...Do you play cash games? Tournaments have a bigger variance...cash games are where the money is. You just need a bankroll to get started.- Jordan

Thanks for your reply and sorry about the large hand history, i will post a smaller one next time!I play limit cash games for 25/50, mostly i play No limit $5 and $10 SnG's.When the blinds are cheap (the first 30 minutes) i will play alot more hands, then when they are expensive i will be much more selective, when its 3 playes or less then i try and play more hands again.

Well as you know i came back from $5.90 to $69. I lost all of that a few days ago - it fell to $5.47.In 2 days i am back up to £45.81 - It feels great. - (crazy swings!)I re-read the bible (Super/System) and i realised that i should be more aggressive and tighter - It works! 8) I have had a some good cards, but i seem to be "sensing" players weakness sometimes so i force them out of the pot. Its payday friday so i'm going to get some more books, The theory of poker and SS2.
