I would like to know how others would of played this hand. While reading, remember that Murdock was very aggressive. In previous hands he was shown to have bet heavy after the flop with hands like AJ with a flop of rags. I was really not sure if I was even up against a pair. If I am calculating the odds correctly, I should have folded. A more obvious mistake is that I picked a fight out of position. All comments welcomed, no thin skin here.*********** # 26 **************is the button Seat 1: BACKATYA (2700 in chips) Seat 2: rustynail43 (1650 in chips) Seat 3: clos (1517 in chips) Seat 4: aceofrome (1810 in chips) Seat 6: cjkicks (1205 in chips) Seat 7: aba69 (2875 in chips) Seat 9: Murdock73 (1743 in chips) rustynail43: posts small blind 25clos: posts big blind 50*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to rustynail43 [8c 8h]aceofrome: folds cjkicks: calls 50aba69: folds Murdock73: calls 50BACKATYA: calls 50rustynail43: raises 50 to 100clos: calls 50cjkicks: calls 50Murdock73: calls 50BACKATYA: calls 50$500 in pot at this point*** FLOP *** [7h 2s 9d]rustynail43: checks clos: checks cjkicks: bets 50Murdock73: raises 150 to 200BACKATYA: folds rustynail43: calls 200clos: folds cjkicks: folds $950 in pot at this point*** TURN *** [7h 2s 9d] [6d]rustynail43: checks Murdock73: bets 500rustynail43: calls 500*** RIVER *** [7h 2s 9d 6d] [Ad]rustynail43: bets 400Murdock73: calls 400*** SHOW DOWN ***rustynail43: shows [8c 8h] (a pair of Eights)Murdock73: shows [9h Ah] (two pair, Aces and Nines)Murdock73 collected 2750 from pot

a pocket pair with only a small overcard on the flop (not paint) is not a horrible play. however, I did see two mistakes in your play.1)Preflop raise of 2x. That is just a waste of chips. Either come in for a pot sized raise or limp with them. You don't gain any information via 2x. 2)Facing a bet and a raise on the flop you should probably let it go. Its just too likely that you are up against a superior hand (a small set from a limper, 9x). Against his actual hand you were Board: 7h 2s 9d Dead: equity (%) win (%) / tie (%) Hand 1: 13.3333 % [ 00.13 00.00 ] { 8h8c }Hand 2: 86.6667 % [ 00.87 00.00 ] { Ah9h }My overall assessment is that you are playing too tight/passive - that's a great way to killed in no limit. Be aggressive - come in for raises and re-raises. Don't call much. Aggression is a great weapon and enables you to not only pick up small pots, but to get paid off on your big hands.

I don't understand what the minimum raise preflop was . I would have either just called or raised it a lot more to either take the blinds or thin the field to 1 or only 2 other players. 88 has a tough time in a multiway pot if you don't hit a set.

Pre flop raises were not getting much respect. Lots of callers at 4 and 5XBB. The plan was to get at lease some money in the pot, see if I hit the set and let it go if not. So much for sticking to a game plan.

Either play it for set value or get it heads up with a large PF raise. You have to flod to this flop bet when you let the hand be multiway. The odds of this flop not hitting someone is minimal when you have so many people in the pot. Becausse your PF raise is small and the pot's not overly huge it should be easy to get away from.Your turn call is awful.
