Value Betting- Generally a concept talked about on the river, when there's no other purpose for betting (unless you're on a stone bluff)... Making a bet when you think:a) there's a very very small chance you're going to be raisedB) that more than half the time your opponent calls, he will do so with a lesser handAssume you've got a hand like A-8On the river, the board looks like this.K 8 2 7 3There was no action on the flop, and your opponent called on the turn. You think he might have a 7, a weaker 8, or an under pair. If you think he'll call with these hands as well as ones that beat you (JJ, Kx, etc), but likely won't raise, throwing a bet in here is a good idea. If you win more than half the time (assuming you have no folding equity here), a value bet would be correct.A value bet is a just a bet that's purpose is to make money with the best hand. Sometimes you bet for deception, to build a pot, to isolate a weak opponent, to knock someone off a better hand, to see a free card.... but a value bet is one you make to earn bling.Ice
