should i have avoided going broke?

Ok, following situation came up in a home tournament. Could I have avoided going broke?Two levels into a home tournament. Start with 5,000 in chips. I'm up to about 7,000, sitting second at the table. Deck has been very very kind to me today. Two tables, my table is five-handed. Three weak tight players, myself, and my friend Tom. Tom is tight aggressive, a very good player. I'm in the small blind. Tom limps UTG, CO limps, Button limps and I call the SB with Q8 . BB minimum raises to two hundred (blinds are at 50-100) and everyone calls. Flop comes:6 , 6 , 2 Checked around. The turn:10 checked around to Tom who bets 500. Smallish bet. I have the odds to call this bet? Two callers, me and a weak player to my left. The river:K I bet 1,000. Weak player folds and Tom moves all in. I have a queen high flush. Generally, my read on Tom is that he is going to push with a hand that has me beat. He is the chip leader at the table and has me covered by about 2,000. I know he isnt even calling a minimum raise preflop with any cards that give him a boat. My main worry is a higher flush, but he has to have the ace to have that. I wouldnt think he has that. Do you pay off a higher flush here? Remember, table is 5 handed. I'm sure in my read that he doesnt have a boat.Do you call the all in? Results to follow.

He's betting $500 in to an $800 pot. The 10 or 6 doesn't help you ( what I mean is that you have to consider those cards as no help ), so theres only 7 spades left. You definatley don't have the "odds" to call, and even IF you hit your spade, you can still be beaten and drawing dead alreday. I say its an easy fold. Theres still alot of hands / tournament left to be played and with only one good player at your table, i'd avoid any run-ins with the crafty player and try to take the weak players money.My vote? Fold.

Yeah, even if you hit your draw you can't be sure you have the best hand. He could have flopped a full house or trips, and could fill up on the river. Don't call the turn and you can't go broke on the river.

Yeah, the more I pondered it, I shouldnt have even called the turn bet. Made me feel ten times worse when he flipped them over. He flopped quad 6's. Ugh.
