i admit i hopped on the bandwagon and was part of the 'TV crowd' of poker and have been playing poker seriously for only a few months. I play (and win) many home/cash games and for not playing long, my short-lived poker "career" (lmao) has been relatively successful, being ahead of the game by way more than what I've put into it. Anyways, to get to my post, I was just curious what online poker sites the general public prefers to play, I have played all of the following:Pokerstars - downloaded after I saw a Raymer/Moneymaker commercial, played here exclusively for 1 month b4 branching out to other sites, but overall I like this site alot (except every tourny 35% sit out...wtf)UltimateBet - downloaded after reading some posts in this forum, the freerolls are good (at all weird hours of the day), but I prefer pokerstars, but overall not a bad sitePokerRoom - not a huge fan of this site because I think the graphics are lamePartyPoker - not a huge fan of Party either...graphics suck and I've heard way too many negative things vs positive thingsFull Tilt - just downloaded this 1 today, and I like the animations and the pro staff is cool, still don't know enough about it to really judge it quite yetEmpirePoker - porely run..I was watching the clock tick down to play in their 2x daily freerolls at 2am, when the tourny started to register I clicked register and it said "processing" and appeared to be frozen...45 seconds later i got a message saying it was full...needless to say, I was quite annoyed and uninstalled it right then and there..my connection was 100% with no delay (cable modem)...again...wtfPokerChamps - another site I found out about through this forum...not bad...not great...placed high in my first freeroll here, although I noticed many tournaments get cancelled...graphics arent all that hot eitherPoker Mountain - I found out about PokerMountain from here during the beta version and all in all its not bad, it just lacks the population that the other sites havejust curious if I haven't played or missed any other good rooms you guys play and which ones you like the best.I'd say my top 3 are: pokerstars, ultimate bet, and prolly Full Tilt (even though I've only played it for a few hours)...any feedback will helpPeace :D [/b]

I started playing several months ago on Paradise Poker and love the site. The games seem to be pretty tough but there are lots of them. Their tourneys are the best, lots of them all the time. The only thing they don't have enough of are freerolls. Only one, singles tourney, like I want to play poker online to meet someone, oh well, its a $50 added freeroll. The best thing about Paradise is they use a sister company for deposits so it does not show up as a gaming site, which means you can use your credit card to buy in which I think is the best option available. I use this option and transfer money from Paradise to other sites, I just can't get myself to put my bank account number online, paranoid, maybe.I also play at UB and love their freerolls. Games are pretty good but not enough tourneys. I just depositted at Poker Stars so I can play in this forums tourneys on Sunday and Tuesday. I have played about 100 hands so far and like the site pretty much. Played at Empire and hated it, no games, no tourneys, no support.

IMHO The Gaming Club is definately worth a try.Good Customer ServiceGood software and graphicsGood speed of playGood range of games/tourneysGood availabity of fish (although there are a healthy number of Nordic players; keep your eyes open  )The only downsides I find are there is a delay before hand histories are available (however once you do retrieve them they are the best displayed I've seen) and their bonuses are a little light (this maybe due to the fact that the rest of the package is so good they don't need to attract players via bonuses)

I play @ Littlewoods purely because of the ease of cash-in and out with a debit card straight to and from my current account. But in order to do this the site has to block American IP addresses. As a result, the site is full of mad vikings who still like to raid and pillage us Brits :-)

paradise is my all time favorite... the games arent tough at all. you just have to know who the sharks are (and if you are observant enough to distinguish them, then you probly are one yourself) Sit in, say hello, and chop the fish up. The community on there was always small enough that i had regular notes on 60% of the players i encountered. I knew who was good, and i knew who to look for when selecting a game.royal vegas (prima) is another good one. The games are pretty soft (passive, and very very loose). the blinds are also half the size of party, so the shorthanded games you can be a bit more selective. ive had many 1k single table sessions on the 3/6 blind NL back when my bankroll was good. since i spent it all on books and a car, ive been mainly sticking to the full table nl 100's... and it is pretty easy.

I haven't played Paradise yet... But a friend of mine begged his mom for a month to let him put money on, so finally his dad allowed the minimum (25 I think?) and told him never to ask again. They're against gambling.So.. needless to say he played pennies for no joke, 6 months, then moved up to .5/.10 etc etc.. And believe me guys as the Forum Moderator I'm not going to blow smoke about this, on pacific poker he's now playing the $25/$50 No-Limit games. And he occasionally plays in the $50/$100 games when they are filled up. I called him to ask him what his name is on there and left him a message incase people on here play there. He has a 40k Bankroll on there and took 4K out to pay some college expenses, I've watched him play, chilling at his house playing my little .25/.50 or whatever it is I'm doing online and its pretty cool, same cards, same rules, but its different at that limit and I really enjoy just watching the man play.He was very strict with moving up though, He won't play a higher limit until it doesn't seem like money to him anymore, he still gets nervous in the 50/100 game.I told him to start hitting the bonuses on the other sites, I even offered to play until the bonus kicked in for him and give him the buy-in plus 50% back, he's still considering it ;)But that just goes to show... Tight, Solid, By the book play can work... even though it doesn't give you the highest possible +EV, perhaps online its the way to go.

If hes truly playing the 25-50, you might suggest to him hes a little short in terms of bankroll... thats only 8 racks. And bonus whoring is gonna be a big waste of time for him, bonuses usually max out at 100$ which is 1 big bet. useless. BTW Pokerchamps i have found to be excellent. the concept is very good, no more toggling between windows. The players there also seem to by actively trying to give away money. Yesterday someone busted me out on the second hand of a tourney with 10-8o. I had AA in the BB. 5 limpers at 10-20 blinds, i made it 160 to go. 2 Callers, flop is 4c10dJd, i bet the pot at 540, this guy reraises me to 1100, im all in for 200 more. He flips up the 10-8o and promptly spikes an 8. BUT, instead of crying about it, im now following this guy around to every table he plays, and picking him clean. He's even tried emailing support about it, accusing me of cheating somehow :D I literally go on now and just look for this guy. whatever game hes playing, im there. He moves tables, i move tables. He plays a tourney, im in the tourney. Good stuff.

Yeah He realizes that, but the way he plays... he doesn't have much Variance.. he's a very tight player, making bluffs when hes got position etc.. because the players at that limit all know each other... he actually has respect with his bets which doesn't happen in lower limits. But yes, I did tell him he was a bit short for that limit, he said he was doing fine in it and his bankroll would support it within about 6 months (He's an avid pockertracker guy).

Jason, How long do you think it took your friend to build his bankroll that big?? You said he didn't move up unless the money didn't mean anything so I can imagine he waited until he had 100-200 X BB to move up. I don't doubt your story at all just curious as to move of his story behind the big run.JmHeel

I went from $300 to $30,000 in about a year, but I played an awful lot.

My friend is currently on his 3rd year... and another 4 months (I remember him begging his parents, I tried to talk thim into it as well). The funniest part is, his parents are extremely strict, he shows them how much he's made, and then still make him work 40 hours a work for 8 bucks an hour in the summer lol. He said this summer it might just be worth it for him to move out onto his own.Just to let you know how much he improved, he played 1/2 through 3/6 for like.. a year straight hitting a road block at 3/6 moving back to 2/4 whatever... and since he broke that barrier he's broken through the "thats money in the pot" way of thinking, and after hitting 5/10 he shot up fast.. playing extremely well, he had just gotten to 25/50 under 2 months ago.

Ultimate Bet, Poker Stars and Full Tilt are the best sites in my opinion. Each site has great poker tournaments. Full Tilt even offers Razz tournaments. You can often find Full Tilt's pro players playing smaller limits at the site. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet. It's fun to chat with Howard Lederer, but not so hot to play against him at a 3-6 table :D I tried Poker Mountain and have to say I loved it. It's just not very popular yet, so it's hard to find players at all times of the day. I think once it starts to get more popular it will be one of the better sites as well.

The one thing Poker Room has going for it is that if you don't happen to own a windows computer, it's the only place you can play.Trust me, there's hundreds of Mac owners who are on there, me being one of them.
